(OUTscene AMERICA) Watch FP writer, Tony Tripoli Tear Up over Joan in this Exclusive Interview from 2011!

OUTview mourns the loss of Joan Rivers and it was our friend, Tony Tripoli who introduced us. Tony has been part of the OUTview Family since 2010 and we were invited to cover his standup performance in August 2011 at LA's Celebration Theater. A special treat was both Melissa Rivers and her pal, Lynn were there to film a segment for the Joan Knows Best Reality show. I personally met Joan 3 times (2011, 2013, 2014) on the set of Fashion Police, even though I didn't get my sit down Interview with Joan, just by meeting her, you feel so connected to her. Tony had a special relationship with Joan, who thought as a mentor and friend and got teary eyed when speaking about her in that interview from 2011.

(OUTscene AMERICA) MK Examines the LA and Seattle Premieres of Geoffrey Nauffts’“Next Fall"!

Adam (Zinovitch) waits for Luke (Traylor) to Finish Praying!
by MK Scott

This Past weekend was my last chance to see the Seattle Premiere of Geoffrey Nauffts’“Next Fall"
which was playing at ArtsWest Theater in West Seattle.

By coming to see it just to compare seeing an All-Star Cast at the LA Premiere in November 2011.

Geoffrey Nauffts’ drama about a gay couple with stark religious differences — one’s a fundamentalist Christian, the other’s a sarcastic agnostic — proceeds with the somber discretion of someone walking into church after the sermon has begun. The play has many humorous moments, particularly when urban wisecracks are pitted against redneck ripostes. But an autumnal light bathes even the comic aspects of the work, toning down the banter and subduing the punch lines.

The LA Production was an ALL-Star Cast with the Playwright, Geoffrey Nauffts as Adam; James (Political Animals) Wolk as Luke; Jeff Fahey as Butch amd the FABULOUS, Lesley Ann Warren as Arlene.

Moving Forward to the 2013 Seattle Producion with Artswest's Artistic Director, Christopher Zinovitch as Adam; David Elwyn Traylor as Luke; John Wray as Butch and Pamela Haines-Ainsworth as Arlene.

Like with the 2010 Broadway and the 2011 LA Production, the Seattle Production were all directed by women. That shouldn't make a difference, but the Seattle Case, the Romance  looked genuine and it carried the same issues with the amount of sensitivity.

Adam (Zinovitch), a neurotic New Yorker who falls in love with Luke (Traylor), a sweet, openhearted younger man who silently says grace before every meal (and after Sex) and believes his sexuality is a sin.

PROTECTED: LA Passes Porn Condom Law!

Los Angeles has defied the porn industry's threat to quit the city and passed a law requiring porn actors to wear condoms during filming. The City Council voted 9-1 for final approval of the ordinance, which is set to go into effect in 90 days, the Los Angeles Times reports.

A film permit fee will fund surprise inspections on porn shoots. California occupational health authorities already require porn actors to wear condoms, but that rule is almost never enforced, Reuters notes. "Clearly, this is about the government overreaching and intruding into consenting adults’ decisions,” complained the chief of a porn industry trade group. “They are taking something they know nothing about and imposing their morality on our industry." The head of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, which spent years fighting for the condom law, says he doesn't believe the porn industry will leave town. "They’d hardly be welcomed in West Virginia or Utah or Mississippi, or even a place like Nevada, where legal prostitution is highly regulated and condoms are required," he says. "And we will follow them wherever they go."

HAPPY NEW YEAR: Skinheads Assault Gay Men in Santa Barbara in Brutal Hate Crime!

Attack
Police are seeking information on three men who brutally beat two gay men on New Years Eve in Santa Barbara, California, the SB Independent reports. The attack was captured on video and was motivated by the victims' sexual orientation: A police spokesperson said the two victims were walking toward their car parked near Ortega and Chapala Streets when they were confronted by three men they had never met. One of the suspects made a derogatory comment and the three proceeded to punch the victims. One of the victims suffered a broken jaw and a severe head injury that required staples to close. The other escaped with only minor injuries.

The men were attacked at around 1:45 am, and the paper has posted descriptions of the assailants. All were white males with shaved heads.

Said Police Chief Cam Sanchez: “Hate crimes like these will not be tolerated and those responsible will be held accountable.”

SPOILED: 'Gay Nativity' Vandalized in California!

Police have launched a hate crime investigation into vandalism of a "gay nativity" scene outside a California church. The scene at Claremont United Methodist Church featured three wooden light boxes portraying a heterosexual and two homosexual couples holding hands beneath a Star of Bethlehem and the words: "Christ is Born." The gay couples were pushed over, reports the Los Angeles Times. The church has a history of featuring social or political messages in its nativity scenes, but they have never before been vandalized. "Christ's birth in a stable had a lot to do with being marginalized," said the church pastor. "What this church has tried to do through these scenes is say, 'What would that look like today?'"

(OUTscene America) MK's Exclusive Visit to this week's 'Fashion Police'!

by MK Scott

As My West Coast Tour winds down, I had the pleasure yesterday of being at the taping of E's 'Fashion Police'  with Joan Rivers, Kelly Osborne, Giuliana Rancic, and George Kotsiopoulos. Even EP, Melissa Rivers was on  Hand. When I arrived at the E! Studio on Thursday Morning, I ran smack into Kelly Osborne in the Hallway and then welcomed (with a Hug) by OUTscene regular and FP Head writer, Tony Tripoli! The studio was small and only a small audience of guests, associates, crew with the job of Laughing and applauding for Joan. The jokes (written by Tripoli) were so Funny Not even Kelly, George, or Giuliana knew what to expect.

IT GETS WORSE: Dan Savage Glitter Bombed Again, Re/ponds to Transphobia Accusations!

Gay rights activist and sex columnist Dan Savage, after being glitter bombed at the University of Oregon earlier this month, was yet again showered with sparkles in response to using transphobic language in his Savage Love column and on stage. This story has taken quite a few turns.

The Bilerico first reported the incident on November 14th, an article which Savage blogged, “actively and maliciously misrepresented” his remarks. On November 9th, Savage, who is on a tour of Universities for his upcoming MTV series, was speaking to an audience at the University of California Irvine. On his blog, Savage explains that he was answering a question from an audience member about her boyfriend who, in her words, “likes watching shemale porn.” In his response, Savage was reported to have used to problematic terms, “shemale” and “freaky tranny porn,” while also confirming that yes, the boyfriend in question was a freak. Savage has fired back to the allegations claiming, “I did say ‘shemale.’ I read the question as-written, repeated the term in my response, and then used ‘transsexual’ in place of ‘shemale’…modeling the use of less offensive terms.” He added, “I never used the phrase ‘freaky tranny porn.’ I never said the word ‘tranny’ at UCI at all.”He does admit to calling the boyfriend “a very freaky boy,” but apparently did not mean it negatively as he and his column are “pro-freak.”
