(LIST) 'Trans 100'!
Monday, the inagural Trans 100 list was unveiled, highlighting trans people doing positive work nationwide. The list was introduced by GLAAD, We Happy Trans, a website that celebrates the positive experiences of transgender people, and This is H.O.W., a Phoenix based non profit organization dedicated to the betterment of the lives of trans people.
“The value of the work that is represented by the 100 people on this list is immeasurable,” said Executive Director of This Is H.O.W., Antonia D’orsay, about the Trans 100. “These people demonstrate the diversity, the determination, and the incredible triumph of spirit that informs all trans people, no matter where they are. This is just a glimpse of what trans people can accomplish.” (OUTview's Very own Lincoln Rose made the List!)
You can view the full list here and read about those on it here.

OUTscene: (RE-view) Becoming Chaz: An Unfinished Story, from a Trans-Man and Audience perspective!
by Lincoln Rose
OUTscene Special
I went to the screen premier of Becoming Chaz this past weekend. It was the big draw of Seattle’s Translations Film Festival, and people were packed in to see it! I was both elated and apprehensive. There are not many positive mainstream transmasculine life stories being told, so I was excited by the movie’s potential. However, trans lives can still play badly out on screen, even when a director has the best intentions. I wondered what we would see when the lights dimmed.
Becoming Chaz turned out to be a slightly jumpy, intense, often fun romp through a small slice of Chaz Bono’s life. First, we were inundated with photos and footage from his childhood to remind us that yes, he had been raised female against his will. Look, there he is in a dress! There he is again! Get it fixed in your mind, so you fully understand how amazing this transformation is. It’s a common theme used in discussing trans lives. Cisgender people seem to need that buildup and contrast, but it went on for too long. The footage was re-used so much later that at times the story tripped over it.

OUTscene: (RE-view) Last Night's Benefit Screening was Awesome!
By Lincoln Rose
OURview Contributor
The benefit showing of the anti-bullying documentary over at the NW Film Forum went very well! There weren’t a lot of people there, but the ones who were seemed really energized and interested in what GLSEN had to say. The film iteself was really quite well-done, though I must admit there were an awfully lot of white people (yours truly included in that observation) in it as “the voices” of the problem of bullying. This is a long standing issue in the mainstream LGBT community, and something OUTview Online is still working on balancing out.
The film started at 7:15 instead of the 7pm start time advertised in order to give latecomers a chance to make it in without being disrespectful to folks who showed up on time. Dr. Jallen Rix was also there last night. He and I shared the screen for the last of the three part episode, where we discussed the role of gender policing in bullying and the function that religion plays in encouraging bullying in the larger culture. We had a lot of fun during the taping, hanging out at the event last night, and during the post show Q&A with the audience. They were really engaged, and asked excellent questions. One gay man asked for advice about better ways to stand up for trans people, based on a situation he’d been in recently where other gay men had been making fun of a trans person he’d been around at a party. Others shared stories of having been bullied, both in school and as adults, and an overall amazing conversation took place.
