by MK Scott

The 12th annual Bellevue Fashion Week was held this past weekend with three nights of runway shows and parties at the Hyatt Regency in Bellevue. This year, they raised over $93,000 for Special Olympics Washington and Bellevue Lifespring.

Representing Special Olympics Washington was Kirby Winfield, incoming board chairman. He took the stage with his daughter, Kate, who has Downs Syndrome and Autism, to share her story and to thank the audience for purchasing tickets to the event. He then announced that the money raised will go to help 200 athletes compete in the 2018 Special Olympics USA Games, which will be held in Seattle next July - https://www.specialolympicsusagames.org/?.

Introducing the show was Season 4 winner of 'Project Runway,' Christian Siriano, who has designed iconic red carpet looks for the likes of J-Lo, Rhianna, Leslie Jones and more.

Some of the best in eye-candy wore inspired fashions mostly from Ted Baker London, Tommy Bahama and the Armani Exchange.

(Bebe Sweetbriar) RAIN DOVE & CORY WADE: Breaking the Gender Binary in Fashion!

Rain Dove in Mercedes Benz Fashion Week

By BeBe Sweetbriar

The first ever Queer Fashion Week continues the presentation of the notion of a genderless fashion world when it takes center stage in Oakland, California April 16-19 . fiveTEN Oakland Events, producer of the event, states its mission of Queer Fashion Week is to showcase fashion creations for all types of bodies and genders. Rain Dove and Cory Wade are two Celebrity Models on board for Queer Fashion Week who continually go against the gender binary as fashion models and people. I had an opportunity to visit with both of these pioneers to talk about their experiences as gender fluid and androgynous models and breaking the gender binary in the fashion world.

No secret, the fashion industry has for a long time propelled the notion that women are meant to be soft, beautiful and sensual and men are built to be strong, distinguished and veral by clothing them on the runway and print advertisements in attire that helps carry that message home to the public. Men and women who don’t fit the gender binary descriptives have often found it hard to find a place in the fashion industry as a commercial model, and thus, in a domino effect, many men and women in the public have found it hard to find themselves in commercial advertisement marketed to them. But, I think it safe to say “thangs be a changing”.

(FASHION ALERT) Real men wear mangerie!

 by Romina Puga

You might be familiar with the floral Japanese male bra that popped up online last week, leaving people confused and amused. You probably said to yourself, “This has to be a joke. This can’t be real.” Well it can, and there’s a market of men who enjoy wearing feminine-looking undergarments, and not because they want to look more like women (sorry ladies).

“There’s no variety in the men’s lingerie sold in department stores. It’s boxers and briefs, and if you’re really daring, maybe a thong!” says Australian male lingerie designer Brent Krause. “There’s no denying department stores sell good quality, functional underwear, and that’s fine for ninety percent of men. But not me.” These mangerie-wearing men like the fabric and feel of nice lingerie and believe it’s time for men to have a chance at feeling sexy in front of the mirror.

If you’re thinking these guys only exist on the other side of the world you’re wrong. Krause's male lingerie company Homme Mystere states that most of their customers come from the United States. Krause says the U.S. makes up about 40 percent of its customer base, with Western Europe and the UK making up another 40 percent. They even send merchandise to Russia and Canada.

“I don’t think the male bra industry is any larger in Japan than anywhere else. Certainly our numbers show the USA and Europe to be about the same in terms of size with Japan quite a distance behind,” says Krause. “In saying that, our wholesale sales are very strong into Japan, which suggests guys are buying our lingerie but prefer to buy from a local store that speaks the language.”

So who are the guys buying this mangerie?

(OUTscene AMERICA) MK gives Behind the Scenes Scoop about tonight's Wife Swap with Rivers Vs. Palin!

by MK Scott

During my recent trip to LA this past May, I was all set to join our pal, Tony Tripoli for my 2nd E! Studio visit at a taping of Joan River's Weekly chatfest, Fashion Police.

What I learned was that I needed to sign a release for a second show, besides Fashion Police. That second show was ABC's Celebrity Wife Swap and  that Bristol Palin had switched places with Mellissa Rivers.

I was sitting just 2 rows behind Bristol as cameras were aiming towards her as she is watching the taping of Fashion Police. Bristol looked thinner in person and was sitting next to one of  Melissa's Gay friends. This should be Fun! (Update; it was discussed why, Bristol was not standing in the sidelines to take Melissa's place as EP/Floor Director, she claimed she was uncomfortable doing that).

Bristol left Mid-way through the taping, and Joan actually came and chatted with the
invited audience. I got to chat with her this time, despite meeting her in December 2011. Joan was Gracious and posed for a photo.

Later the special Guest, Brad Goreski (It's Brad, Brad World) came on and later I ran to catch up to him as he was exiting, I previously heard his reputation  for being a Diva which later became true, or perhaps it was his publicist who declined my card to schedule an interview.

So, Who was the Biggest Diva of the Night? Bristol, Joan or Brad? It was a toss up between Bristol Vs. Brad.

Update: I did spot me in the FP scene in the studio audience with my black and bright green striped shirting standing out.

(OUTscene NW) RE-view: The 2013 Metropolitan Fashion Week!

by Eddie Walker

On April 13, 2013, Metropolitan Fashion Week (Bellevue-Seattle) held it’s Closing Gala at The Chihuly Garden and Glass Museum in downtown Seattle, WA.

The show opened with Mily Lu’s “Navigation Girls”. She styled them to look like walking Chihuly art pieces, as they strutted the runway wearing her latest shoe creations from the Milylu Design - 2013 Collection.

The “Navigation Girls” were followed by Women’s & Men’s Swimwear. The women wore designs by Niveen Heaton of Adicora Swimwear. With neon being the primary color palette of this collection, it had a very ‘go-go girl’ feel to it. Luckily, the designer paired earth-tone colored, azulejo prints with neon solids, which toned down the brightness and youngness of the designs, making the swimsuits more wearable for a more sophisticated lady. The men wore swimsuit designs by UnderU4Men. And I didn’t see one men’s swimsuit that I didn’t like.

( On the Street) The New Man!

Cunningham

There's a men's fashion revolution underway from '30s styles to a revival of grunge and mouth grilles, says NYT man on the street Bill Cunningham:

"There's something in the air and it's all being reflected not in women's clothes but in men's clothes...It's very easy just to laugh and pass it off as 'oh this is just going along with gay marriage and all this, they can dress any way they want' but it's much more than that. Much more than that. The peacock is emerging. He's been a sparrow since mid-Victorian times."
