(OUTview AMERICA): INTER-view: Jake Biondi Previews Boystown Season 5!

by MK Scott

The BOYSTOWN series has a fascinating history. It began as an online story released in installments, each ending with a cliffhanger that left readers wondering what would happen to their favorite characters. Enthusiastic BOYSTOWN fans from all over the world petitioned Biondi to release the installments more quickly; they simply couldn’t wait to find out what happened next. Overwhelmed by and grateful for the fans’ responses to the series, Biondi began to write more quickly and also began to publish the series in book format.

Like the first four books, BOYSTOWN Season Five is available at bookstores across the country as well at online at amazon.com, bn.com, and iTunes. The series is available in paperback, audio book, and all e-book formats. Readers may order autographed paperback copies of the books directly from BoystownTheSeries.com.

(OUTscene America) RE-view: Zumanity still one of sexiest shows on the Vegas Strip!

by MK Scott

It has been 5 years since we last saw Zumanity in Vegas at New York, New York, From the Creative artists from Cirque du Soleil.

I was thrilled to have a opportunity see this Sexy production and was not disappointed (well, Maybe too many Nude Show Girls and Ariel artists) but this time a around was a mixed bag, cause there wasn't the same balance I saw in 2011. I will get that that later.

Billing itself as "Another side of Cirque du Soleil," this New York-New York Hotel & Casino resident production makes the most of its difference from other Cirque shows. A combination burlesque/cabaret, ZUMANITY, recalls the ribald Rocky Horror Picture Show of years gone by. The flavor of ZUMANITY can best be tasted on its menu of production numbers like Body2Body, Dislocation, 2Men and Midnight Bath and Orgy. Needless to say, ZUMANITY is not a show for the little ones, but it's pure Las Vegas entertainment, with a sharp sexual edge.

(OUTview AMERICA) MK's 'JOINT' Inter-view with the Stars of 'You're Killing Me" now out on VOD and DVD!

George Hopes Joe is Joking!                 Wolfe
by MK Scott

George (Jeffery Self), a narcissistic wannabe internet star, starts dating Joe (Matthew McKelligon), a monotone serial killer. While all of George's friends agree that Joe seems a bit strange, George claims his new beau "isn't scary, he's gorgeous." But as George's friends start to disappear, the remaining group decides to take matters into their own hands.

Directed by Jim Hansen, creator of the viral video smash series "The Chloe Videos", this gay mixture of "Dexter" and "Gilmore Girls" blends witty banter, pop culture references and good old-fashioned murder. YOU'RE KILLING ME employs humor, camp, and razor sharp wit to tell a morality tale about self-obsession and our growing disconnection with the world around us. After sold out festival screenings and critical acclaim last year, the film is now available to nationwide audiences.

Starring popular gay actor Matthew McKelligon (Interior. Leather. Bar., Eastsiders, and My Sweet Suicide), Jeffery Self (Logo's "Jeffery & Cole Casserole"), Drew Droege (The Chloe Videos), Mindy Cohn ("The Secret Life of the American Teenager"), and Edi Patterson ("Blackish," "Partners").

One expects Shock -- with a capital 'S' -- when reading a book called The Mommie Dearest Diary -- Carol Ann Tells All. And actress Rutanya Alda's book, all about the nightmare of playing Joan Crawford's faithful maid opposite Faye Dunaway in the notorious 1981 camp classic, does not disappoint. All the rumors about Ms. Dunaway's grandstanding diva behavior are true, if Ms. Alda is to be believed.

(OUTscene AMERICA) INTER-view: Is Faye Dunaway Trying to Hijack Rutanya Alda’s Mommie Dearest Diaries?

by Leon Acord

OK, so maybe it took her a while to catch on.

After all, she’s not just “Carol Ann.” Veteran character actress Rutanya Alda has played dozens and dozens of roles in her career, in such famous films as The Deer Hunter, Last Exit to Brooklyn, When a Stranger Calls and the cult hit Amityville II, as well as guest roles in almost every TV show that’s shot in New York City since the mid-1980s [and, in theinterest of full disclosure, a recent guest-starring stint on my web series Old Dogs & New Tricks].

But it wasn’t until May 11, 2013, as actress Rutanya Alda was being honored at San Francisco’s historic Castro Theatre, that she realized Mommie Dearest—the Faye Dunaway vehicle in which Alda had played Joan Crawford’s faithful maid—had a huge gay cult following.

She had decided to read snippets from the diary she had kept during production of the infamous 1981 film (which Dunaway which notoriously refused to discuss) at the event.  She was so taken by the enthusiastic response that she then began thinking it might make a good book!

Jump ahead two years. Alda’s “Mommie Dearest Diaries” is set for publication in early summer. And who should call Ms. Alda’s agent but Ms. Dunaway herself, asking if Rutanya would “collaborate” (for an acknowledgement but no pay) with Dunaway on her own book about Mommie Dearest, which Dunaway recently decided to write.

Coincidence? Given Dunaway’s fury whenever asked about the film (till now)—and the fact the two actors haven’t spoken since they shot their final scene over 30 year ago—it does seem rather odd. Did Dunaway catch wind of Alda’s book? And how? Is this a pre-emptive strike? An attempt at damage control?

I talked with Rutanya as soon as I saw the news!

(OUTscene AMERICA) Re-Cap: HRC dinner in LA brings out Mariah Carey, Matt Bomer, Lena Dunham and many more!

Mariah Literally Stole the Show!                                  Hernandez

by Greg Hernandez
Greg in Hollywood

When word got out that Mariah Carey would be performing at Saturday night’s Human Rights Campaign Dinner in Los Angeles, the event quickly became a sellout.

The crowd of 1,200 had to wait until the very end of a long, star-studded evening, before the Grammy winner was introduced by Empire star Jussie Smollett.

‘I don’t know how to explain how much a love this woman … she is one of the greatest vocalists of all time,’ said Smollett who came out publicly as a gay man earlier this month.

‘I’m about to pee myself,’ he admitted. ‘She’s right there.’

(OUTscene AMERICA) RED CARPET: HRC -LA Gala!

Hernandez

by  Greg Hernandez
Greg in Hollywood

It must’ve been the Mariah Carey effect.

Saturday night’s arrivals carpet at the Human Rights Campaign Dinner at the JW Marriott at LA Live drew more media than there was space so we were packed like sardines.

I literally had to stand sideways the entire time as I did interviews with honorees Shonda Rhimes and HBO’s Michael Lombardo as well as HRC President Chad Griffin.

Mariah was confirmed just a few days before the event and Griffin told me he immediately began hearing from a lot of people in LA where he lived until starting his East Coast-based job with HRC.

‘Some folks who hadn’t gotten their tickets early enough then suddenly got their tickets,’ he said. ‘We’re all excited to see Mariah no question about it.’

Lombardo told me during our chat that he was ‘incredibly proud’ to be receiving the HRC Visibility Award.

‘I’m a gay American, I’m a father, I’m a husband. HRC has been at the forefront of protecting my rights – the right of my marriage, the rights of my kids. There’s not an organization that I could be more proud to be recognized by.’

I also chatted with George Takei, Betty DeGeneres, Jonathan Del Arco, Lance Bass, Peter Paige and Ryan Carnes.

Matt Bomer posed for photos then blew by the press line but I was able to snap one fuzzy photo. Was chatting with Takei when Cheyenne Jackson and his hubby came by and I also spotted but did not get to chat with Guillermo Diaz, Maria Bello, Lea Thompson, Dan Bucatinsky and Michelle Stafford.

Mariah didn’t do the arrivals carpet, of course, nor did keynote speaker Al Franken, Girls star Lena Dunham, or Empire star Jussie Smollett.

(OUTscene AMERICA) INTER-view: It's WTC View's 10th Anniversary and MK chats with Writer and Director, Brian Sloan!

by MK Scott

Hard to believe it has been 10 years since the release of WTC View, starring a Pre-Ugly Betty, Michael Urie.

Now get ready for 10th anniversary re-release of post 9/11 film WTC VIEW, a film that is more timely and resonant than ever. Film was released digitally for the first time on March 3rd.

The film was inspired by a real incident from the writer/director Brian Sloan, who posted an an ad for a roommate on 9/11 and then received some unbelievable responses. WTC VIEW is as timely as ever, on it's 10th anniversary, in the wake of continued worldwide political instability, as a way to reflect on communal grief and loss and how a city and a nation can deal with it, collectively. I had a chance to email Sloane some questions.
