(IT's WAR) Towleroad Calls Out GH’s Felix As “Lipstick Yielding Gay Male Nurse”! Ron Carlivati Fires Back To Negative Comments, Towle Apologizes!

Courtesy/ABC
A firestorm of controversy had erupted over the last 48 hours on the popular Gay blog, Towleroad!  In a post, Towleroad, after referencing a review from We Love Soaps on the introduction of  the new character of Felix Dubois (played by Marc  Anthony Samuel) on General Hospital took to task what they interpret as a negative portrayal of a gay character.

As many had seen in his first on-screen appearance, the character of Felix carried on him some lipstick.  However Towleroad’s slant on this was, “To establish his character as gay, his first scenes involved him pulling out a tube of lipstick and offering to touch up a heterosexual woman. Oy.”   After this posting, readers to the blog continued on with negative comments,  outrage, and attacks including this one:  “This idiocy from General Hospital  is the equivalent of a blackface minstrel show. With enough ridicule, I hope the producer and writer become a laughing stock, which is what they deserve.”

Thought Anderson Cooper's epic takedown of Star Jones was awesome? Since everyone loves a good celebrity feud, Celebuzz rounds up 20 more:

(SOAP Q) Greg Rikaart talks about his Twitter war with fellow soap star Melissa Reeves over anti-gay Chick-fil-A

Greg Rikaart, who plays Kevin Fisher on the CBS soap The Young and the Restless, found himself in Chick-fil-A war with Melissa Reeves of NBC’s Days of Our Lives who publicly showed her support of the fast food chain that is publicly against gay marriage and has donated millions in recent years to anti-gay causes.

Rikaart called Reeves out on Twitter and in a column he wrote for Huffington Post.

Rikaart (Semi-OUT) tells TV Guide: “I did get a lot of support but the general tone of political discourse in this country is very disheartening. I was getting challenged by some people for having attacked Melissa Reeves when, frankly, what I said was anything but an attack. I expressed my disappointment that she has aligned herself with a company that promotes hatred and bigotry, and I stand by that. I welcome a conversation with her. It’s the only way people on different sides of an issue can meet in the middle and understand each other’s point of view. I would have loved that opportunity with Melissa but she blocked me from her Twitter account. [Reeves subsequently blocked everybody by shutting down the account.]

BITCH SLAP: Furnish says 'Integrity' of Golden Globes Must Be 'Questioned'!

Elton John's husband David Furnish had more to say to the NY Post about Madonna's Golden Globe win:Carson_ej“I think it was a fluke . . . When this happens you have to question the integrity of the awards. Did Madonna get the Golden Globe because she attended the awards and agreed be a presenter? Can you sing Madonna’s song? Can you hum it? It’s a song nobody has heard, from a film few have seen. The award should have gone to Mary J. Blige or Elton. I like Madonna’s music, but not her movies. She should stick to what she is good at.”

BACKLASH: Bachmann Insists Paul Bribed My Guy!

Michelle Bachmann may be down in the polls, but she's certainly not backing down. The GOP candidate yesterday continued to insist that her Iowa campaign chair defected to Ron Paul's camp because he was bribed to do so, reports Bloomberg. Kent Sorenson "told me that he was offered money, he was offered a lot of money by the Ron Paul campaign,” Bachmann said. "No one else knows about that conversation other than Kent Sorenson and myself." Sorenson continues to maintain that he "was never offered money from the Ron Paul campaign or anyone associated with them and certainly would never accept any."

HOMAGE: Did Lupone and Close make up for Cook?

Watching last night’s telecast of the Kennedy Center Honors on CBS, Glenn Close sang a beautiful ballad as part of a tribute to honoree Barbara Cook and was soon followed by Patti LuPone, observes Greg in Hollywood!

Flash back to the mid-90s when Close got to be Norma Desmond in the very first Broadway production of Sunset Boulevard – at LuPone’s expense.

It was a major triumph for Close who went on to win the Tony Award for lead actress in a musical. For LuPone who was supposed to be the first Norma on Broadway, it was the most disappointing experience of her career.

It's WAR: Log Cabin Republicans Rip Bradley Manning's Lawyers for Using the Gay Card!

Cooper, Executive Director of the Log Cabin Republicans, takes Wikileaks soldier Bradley Manning's lawyers to task in the Stars & Stripes military newspaper:CooperIf he’s guilty, Manning not only violated security protocol and the Uniform Code of Military Justice, he violated the trust of his colleagues, the Army and his countrymen. Now that he prepares to stand trial, he has shown himself to be willing to sacrifice honorable gay and lesbian servicemembers to avoid responsibility. Lawyers for Manning are claiming that his struggle with his sexual orientation contributed to emotional problems that should have precluded him from working in a classified environment. This shameful defense is an offense to the tens of thousands of gay servicemembers who served honorably under “don’t ask, don’t tell.” We all served under the same law, with the same challenges and struggles. We did not commit treason because of it.

Log Cabin Republicans have long advocated that one’s sexual orientation should not be grounds for discrimination or dismissal in the workplace. As conservatives, we believe in the meritocracy of one’s labor. Good behavior and excellent performance come with reward and encouragement. Bad behavior and poor performance come with punishment and corrective measures. To justify misbehavior in the workplace because of minority status is detrimental to the morale and performance of others. For Manning’s legal counsel at Fort Meade, Md., to suggest that his orientation and/or gender identity be part of a defense or excuse for misbehavior is as unacceptable as the use of a “gay panic” defense by a murderer.

WHORE: Anderson Cooper mockingly defends Kim Kardashian’s divorce!

Anderson Coooper 360 Kim Kardashian 2011

If ever there was anything that deserved to be on Anderson Cooper’s “Ridiculist,” it would be the 72-day “marriage” of reality star Kim Kardashian and NBA player Kris Humphries.
On last night’s edition of Anderson Cooper 360, The Silver Fox mockingly defended the made-for-TV nuptials: “How could you not support a couple whose two day televised wedding on the E exclamation network, cost a reported $10 million and was subsidized by sponsors? Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe that is called the American Dream.”

Cooper said that according to the New York Post, Kardashian sold the rights to her wedding for nearly $18 million.”She’s…laughing all the way to the bank,” he remarked. “She’s laughing so hard that even if they locked her in the bank vault, deep inside the subbasement, you would still hear her laughter floating all the way to the street level where Kris Jenner would be in her Bentley double-parked on your soul.”

It's WAR: Vera Wang Responds To Nancy Lee Grahn's Tweets!

On Tuesday night GENERAL HOSPITAL star Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis) fired off several angry tweets about how someone at Vera Wang told the show’s costume department that the brand didn’t want its dresses on a soap opera. But according to Vera Wang, no one from GENERAL HOSPITAL actually reached out to them in the first place, according to We Love Soaps.

In her tweets, Grahn accused a sales associate at the fashion house’s Melrose Place store in Los Angeles of telling its wardrobe staff that “we don't do television & definitely not DAYTIME television….” Grahn went on to say that GENERAL HOSPITAL offered to buy the dress, but they were kicked out of the store.
