  • The Republican chair of the US House’s subcommittee on human rights says that LGBT rights are not human rights.

(MNW) Things just got even messier in Alabama!

Marriage starts today in Alabama, and the usual suspects are still trying to figure out some way to stop it. Nebraska accidentally passed a bill that will recognize gay and lesbian couples, but only when they're carrying a concealed firearm. And we're on a fast track for rulings in several southern states.

Marriage could be starting next week in Alabama. Anti-gay officials are saying that they don’t have to let gay couples get married, but their reasoning isn’t exactly what you would call true. Oklahoma’s marriage equality backlash is getting dangerous, with a proposed law that would hand new victims to ex-gay predators. And the National Organization for Marriage thinks they’ll have an impact on the 2016 presidential election.

(MNW) Surprise Victory in Colorado!

This week I'm back in California, where we just celebrated one year of marriage equality. It was in late June that the AFER's case to overturn Prop 8 finally concluded and equality was restored. Now, we're awaiting a ruling in AFER's Virginia case. We've already won at the district court level, and now the Fourth Circuit could rule on an appeal any day.

Also this week, a Colorado judge will allow marriages to continue, even though the state's marriage ban is still on the books. A ruling from the U. S. Supreme Court means marriage is safe in Pennsylvania. We have a new case in Idaho, briefs in multiple states, and a new survey in Louisiana.

(MNW) Big Upcoming Marriage Hearing!

This week my marriage equality road trip takes me to Fargo, North Dakota this week, then on to Minneapolis. We have big news from four states in the Sixth Circuit this week. Plus a strong showing for the freedom to marry in a Colorado case.

(MNW) Marriage Confusion in Wisconsin!

Wisconsin's marriage ban is unconstitutional. There've been more big defeats for the National Organization for Marriage. Utah officials resist a ruling that they must recognize the marriage licenses that the state issued to gay and lesbian couples last winter. And Pennsylvania voters show their support for the freedom to marry.

South Dakota's Attorney General says he'll fight a lesbian couple in court to stop them from having their marriage recognized. Alaska's highest court has ruled against the state's marriage ban after a deliberation of over a year and a half. We have several new lawsuits, plus a major ruling coming this week in Arkansas.
