(MNW) Politician Wants Arrests After Gays Marry!

There's a big fight underway right now in Alabama, with a Judge overturning a marriage ban and state officials refusing to obey his order to issue licenses. Anti-gay politicians are threatening to ban all marriage licenses if the Supreme Court rules in favor of equality. And one lawmaker even wants to send clerks to jail if they issue licenses to anyone -- gay or straight.

It's been a huge week for marriage equality. Florida became the 36th state with the freedom to marry, judges in three southern states heard oral arguments, and the Supreme Court considered cases from five states. Plus a lawmaker in Texas is wasting everyone's time with a new anti-gay law that would make life difficult for everyone.

A massive victory for equality in Wisconsin and Indiana, with one of the most strongly-worded decisions yet. A judge in Louisiana has ruled against marriage equality, but there are some problems with his ruling. There are major oral arguments this week in multiple states, and more cases move closer to consideration by the US Supreme Court.

Anti-gay attorneys took a beating before the Seventh Circuit last week, trying and failing to defend marriage bans before a panel of hostile judges. Now all eyes are on the Supreme Court to see which cases they'll take up in their fall session. There's another major marriage argument coming up in a few days. And the National Organization for Marriage still isn't giving up in Oregon, despite having lost months ago.

The rules have changed yet again this week in Colorado, with new rulings on marriage from multiple courts. New polls show growing support for equality in western states, but multiple Attorneys General have filed new briefs to stop gay and lesbian couples from marrying. And another Republican member of Congress has come out in favor of the freedom to marry.

Another week, and another win for marriage equality. This time, it's Florida. But the freedom to marry is in jeopardy in Colorado. Meanwhile an appeals court has set a date for oral argument in two states, but then said never mind. And the Department of Justice has indicated its plans for addressing the freedom to marry before the Supreme Court.

This week I'm in Pennsylvania, which gained the freedom to marry just a few months ago. We have big victories this week in Kentucky, and a ton of hearings coming up from one side of the country to the other. There's a battle of wills and a surprise move in Colorado. And one of the Prop 8 lawyers is headed back to court -- this time, as a judge.

Wisconsin's marriage ban is unconstitutional. There've been more big defeats for the National Organization for Marriage. Utah officials resist a ruling that they must recognize the marriage licenses that the state issued to gay and lesbian couples last winter. The National Organization for Marriage screws up again in Oregon. Judges in Idaho and Arkansas rule that marriage bans violate the US Constitution. Following another round of hearings, rulings are due any day now in Virginia and Pennsylvania. And a new lawsuit in Alaska leaves just three states with an unchallenged marriage ban.

South Dakota's Attorney General says he'll fight a lesbian couple in court to stop them from having their marriage recognized. Alaska's highest court has ruled against the state's marriage ban after a deliberation of over a year and a half. We have several new lawsuits, plus a major ruling coming this week in Arkansas.

(MNW) Politician Says Marriage Equality is Murder!

Anti-gay groups are getting desperate, with one candidate for governor comparing marriage equality to murder. An Alabama scheme to slip a marriage ban into the US Constitution is moving forward but is pretty much guaranteed to fail. A judge in Ohio rules that marriage equality isn't only for dead people anymore. Plus, a major marriage victory in Utah gets put to the test on appeal this Thursday. We'll have all the details.

(CAUGHT) Sam Champion’s Miami reception!


 

Good Morning America weather anchor Sam Champion and new husband Rubem Robierb celebrated their marriage with a splashy New Year’s Even party that included both of their mothers.
 
The party was attended by about 100 friends and family members, the Miami Herald reports.

MSNBC anchor and fellow newlywed Thomas Roberts,  performed a brief wedding ceremony at the reception.

LIST: Top 10 Trashiest Spring Break Cities!

 
With spring break nearly here, the connoisseurs of trashiness at COED Magazine have ranked America's top 10 "trashiest" destinations:
  1. Las Vegas: The gambling capital of the world was home to last year's MTV's Spring Break. No beach, but plenty of pool parties.
  2. Key West: Open-container laws go out the window in peak season.
  3. South Padre Island: 50,000 students descend on this Texas locale in March, and kegs are legal on the beach.
  4. Daytona: It's home to NASCAR, but it's earning another distinction: More than 1,000 underage drinkers were arrested here in 2010.
