(OUTscene NW) 17th Seattle Gay & Lesbian Film Festival Closes Announces Winners of Jury and Audience Awards!

SEATTLE - October 23 -  The Seattle Lesbian & Gay Film Festival (SLGFF) ended its 17th run October 21 with the announcement of its Jury and Audience Awards.  Deeply personal stories, laugh out loud comedies, timely documentaries, poignant dramas, premieres with big-name stars and cutting edge works from local and emerging talent all highlighted this year’s programming.  SLGFF is produced by award-winning Seattle nonprofit, Three Dollar Bill Cinema.

“It made me proud to see the Seattle Lesbian & Gay Film Festival bring together such diverse crowds with our film programs and special events,” said Jason Plourde, Three Dollar Bill Cinema’s Executive Director.  “Our 11 day film festival became a special place for all people to view and discuss LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) stories from around the world, and that included queer women of color, heterosexual religious conservatives and high school GSAs (Gay-Straight Alliances) from across the region. And with Referendum 74 so close in the polls, it was especially important to provide this forum and increase visibility for our community.”

The festival had five sold out shows, notably the Centerpiece screening of CLOUDBURST, starring Olympia Dukakis and Brenda Fricker, and packed venues throughout the festival, particularly for audience favorites such as the Opening Night comedy STRUCK BY LIGHTNING, the beautiful spectacle of SWAN LAKE in 3D and the local celebrity-studded WAXIE MOON IN FALLEN JEWEL.

GLEE-FUL: Paltrow, Devine, Timberlake win Emmy gold!

As if she wasn’t already perfect enough, now Gwyneth Paltrow has an Emmy to go along with her Oscar, reports Greg in Hollywood.

She was named winner of the Emmy for outstanding guest actress in a comedy for her performance as substitute teacher Holly Holliday on Glee.

It’s frankly been Paltrow’s best role in years. Polly is far more feisty and interesting than her supporting role on the Iron Man flicks and I never got around to seeing Country Strong.

She gets to be funny ad sweet on Glee and also gets to sing which she does so very well as we got to see with her renditions of Cee Lo Green’s Forget You, Fleetwood Mac’s Landslide and and dueting with Matthew Morrison on a sexy, tango-infused Kiss by Prince.
