So GAY: Book of Mormon Sweeps GAY Tonys!

Broadway's gaspingly irreverent Book of Mormon took home nine Tony Awards last night, winning everything from Best Musical to Best Score to Best Direction to Best Actress in a musical (Nikki M. James). "You did it, Joseph! You got the Tony!" joked the co-creator of the musical, Trey Parker, referring to Mormon founder Joseph Smith. It was one more dig linked to an over-the-top musical that jokes about Mormon missionaries, misery, gun-toting African war-lords, and sex with babies. Asked backstage if he and fellow South Park writer Matt Stone will jinx their chances in heaven for spoofing spiritual matters, Parker quipped that he'll tell God to "look at the box office."

Puppeteering anti-war masterpiece War Horse won five awards, while the revival of Larry Kramer's play about AIDS The Normal Heart, and Anything Goes won three top spots each, AP reports. Frances McDormand won Best Actress in a play for Good People and Mark Rylance won top actor honors for Jerusalem. The top directing award for a play went to Marianne Elliott and Tom Morris for the tear-jerker War Horse. "We quite like it when people cry," Morris quipped.

MISS: Britney Bombs at Billboard Music Awards!

Britney Spears had two big appearances at last night's Billboard Music Awards—and "it wasn't good," snarks Matt Cherette for Gawker. The show opened with Rihanna performing her song "S&M" (complete with, oddly, "a bunch of random hands trying to caress" her crotch), who was joined by Britney half-way through. "Spears lip-synced (Rihanna sang live), danced like she had arthritis, and even managed to mess up a song-ending pillow fight," complains Cherette.

The embarrassment continued later when Spears reappeared for a performance during Nicki Minaj's set. "And by 'performance,' I mean an even-worse-than-the-first-one cameo," Cherette quips.

'Facts of Life' Cast Reunites

Part of Charlotte Rae's speech at the TV Land awards: "I tell you, I'm so proud of my girls. They all turned out to be straight! Straight!" (Not all are)!

Like TV Squad, we're sure that Mrs. Garrett meant "straight" in character, but given the predominant use of that term these days, it was sure odd to hear, particularly as her speech was followed by the recently-out Geri Jewell.

Jewell's speech was the most touching: "When I was a kid, I was made fun of a lot and ridiculed. I wanted to be an actress, I wanted to be a comedienne. And they cast me in this wonderful show, 'Facts of Life,' and it was the first time in my life that kids weren't afraid of me when they saw me, but they wanted my autograph."

GLAAD Media Awards recap: “Modern Family” and “Glee” win; Kirstin Chenowith honored; Dolly Parton surprise guest!

I must say, Sunday night’s GLAAD Media Awards in downtown Los Angeles was one of the most emotional that I can remember in about a decade of covering the LA ceremony, Reports  Greg in Hollywood.

Modern Family and Glee tied for outstanding comedy series. While accepting for Family, Jesse Tyler Ferguson joked: ‘I’ve always actually kind of dreamed of holding a Tony Award but this is just as cool – and just as gay! … We’re thrilled to accept it and honored to be here.”

Chris Colfer and Mike O’Malley, who play father and son on Glee, accepted their show’s award. Said Chris: “GLAAD has made Glee so happy.”
