(OUTscene America) RE-view: Zumanity still one of sexiest shows on the Vegas Strip!
by MK Scott
It has been 5 years since we last saw Zumanity in Vegas at New York, New York, From the Creative artists from Cirque du Soleil.
I was thrilled to have a opportunity see this Sexy production and was not disappointed (well, Maybe too many Nude Show Girls and Ariel artists) but this time a around was a mixed bag, cause there wasn't the same balance I saw in 2011. I will get that that later.
Billing itself as "Another side of Cirque du Soleil," this New York-New York Hotel & Casino resident production makes the most of its difference from other Cirque shows. A combination burlesque/cabaret, ZUMANITY, recalls the ribald Rocky Horror Picture Show of years gone by. The flavor of ZUMANITY can best be tasted on its menu of production numbers like Body2Body, Dislocation, 2Men and Midnight Bath and Orgy. Needless to say, ZUMANITY is not a show for the little ones, but it's pure Las Vegas entertainment, with a sharp sexual edge.
As part of the Cirque du Soleil international brand, all of the production values and especially the performances and visuals are extraordinary. Audiences also enjoy the direct interaction with the cast, as is typical Cirque behavior, when the players make everyone part of the show. Contortionists, dancers, aerialists and other high flyers jam enough stunts into the 90-minute show to leave you exhausted or aroused by the time you walk out of the Zumanity Theatre.
Cirque du Soleil describes Zumanity as "the other side of Cirque du Soleil." More theater than circus, produced in a European cabaret style, this show departs from Cirque du Soleil's family image to focus on human sexuality. MORE!
In Las Vegas, the "perfect" showgirl has long been the icon of sexy performances, but Zumanity goes in a different direction, featuring people of all sizes, shapes, colors and persuasions.
Now, if you are lucky enough to be asked to be on stage and look out you may be asked to perform simulated sex acts as part of the orgy towards the finale. Did I mention this not a show for kids?
The highlight is the always Masterful and NW-Native, Edie Entertainer, however one disappointment was the absence of Edie for this performance and I was told later it was just a temporary replacement and Edie is still part of the show. The replacement was an androgynous dancer named, Pepe, who was like Cabaret/Alan Cuming inspired. I wouldn't call it drag. Also missing was the Male Acrobatic couple (Kevin Gibbs and Bernard Gaddis) and I love it so much because of the diversity of the couples (Straight, Lesbian and Gay) during the Orgy at the end.
Afterwards, you are expected to to go home or back to your hotel and be aroused. Was it worth it? Still Hell Yeah!
