(OUTview AMERICA) MK's 'JOINT' Inter-view with the Stars of 'You're Killing Me" now out on VOD and DVD!

George Hopes Joe is Joking!                 Wolfe
by MK Scott

George (Jeffery Self), a narcissistic wannabe internet star, starts dating Joe (Matthew McKelligon), a monotone serial killer. While all of George's friends agree that Joe seems a bit strange, George claims his new beau "isn't scary, he's gorgeous." But as George's friends start to disappear, the remaining group decides to take matters into their own hands.

Directed by Jim Hansen, creator of the viral video smash series "The Chloe Videos", this gay mixture of "Dexter" and "Gilmore Girls" blends witty banter, pop culture references and good old-fashioned murder. YOU'RE KILLING ME employs humor, camp, and razor sharp wit to tell a morality tale about self-obsession and our growing disconnection with the world around us. After sold out festival screenings and critical acclaim last year, the film is now available to nationwide audiences.

Starring popular gay actor Matthew McKelligon (Interior. Leather. Bar., Eastsiders, and My Sweet Suicide), Jeffery Self (Logo's "Jeffery & Cole Casserole"), Drew Droege (The Chloe Videos), Mindy Cohn ("The Secret Life of the American Teenager"), and Edi Patterson ("Blackish," "Partners").

I sent both McKelligon and Self questions and I once again created this Exclusive "Joint' Interview:

MK SCOTT:  Congrats on the success of you're Killing me on the Film Festival circuit, it was one of my Top 5!

MATTHEW MCKELLIGON: Thank you so much. We've all been elated over the response the film has gotten. We couldn't be happier.

JEFFERY SELF: Thanks!

Joe isn't that screwed up!  WOLFE
MK: I loved How this was a parody of slasher films with a gay twist, I compare to a Gay version of American Psycho. Why do you think your (Joe) character was so screwed up?

MM: "Screwed up" is subjective here. In case you didn't notice, everyone around Joe is pretty screwed up themselves. Joe might be decapitating his dates, but he's merely a naive product of his surroundings. He definitely shares shreds of Patrick Bateman's disillusion, but he's a lot more naive and childlike. He's so self-unaware that it makes him the sweetest character in the movie.

MK:  How did get involved with the film?

JS: Jim and I wrote it together back in 2012 (i think?) with the idea of making a movie with our friends. It was such fun to write and even more fun to make because we're all so used to do videos and sketches and live shit together. so getting to make something full length written for us specifically, in our own homes, made for a perfect 2 weeks of shooting.

MM: I've always had a fascination for serial killers and all of my friends are uncomfortably aware of this. I happened to be friends with Jim, the director, and based on my involvement with "EastSiders", he and Jeffery invited me to a table reading and then it was pretty much settled.

MK: Who cracked you up the most Drew or Bryan?

JS: Obviously both. No one makes me laugh harder than those two. Truly.

MM: I was rarely in any mood to get too cracked up given our tight shooting schedule and thus my need to stay focused. I would actually have to leave the room in between takes as they were all too much to handle (meant in the best way possible, of course).

Is it LOVE or NEED?   WOLFE
MK:  Did Joe and George truly love each other?

JS: I think they both give each other something fills a deeply needy void. It's certainly not healthy, but love rarely is I guess.

MM: They definitely do--at least in each of their minds, they do. I suppose it's impossible to know whether everyone else experiences every emotion you do to the very same extent or in the very same specific way. Regardless, Joe's intent is to build something with someone, and George's intent is to be with someone that will ogle at him and obsess over him. That's true (dysfunctional) love right there, if you ask me.

MK:  Will there be a sequel?

JS: Maybe so. We have an idea for one. If someone wants to pay for it- then sure!

MM: Mindy Cohn already named it: "We're Killing You" and it'd be a Bonnie and Clyde-esque murder spree with both Joe and her character. In all honesty, we have no plans at the moment, though I wouldn't be opposed to picking up the ol' machete again.

MK:  What's Next?

MM: I play a junior-high English teacher that contracts HIV in a short film called, "The Ace", that'll be making the festival rounds. It couldn't have a more different tone. We focus on the way in which societal acceptance of HIV/AIDS does not necessarily negate the fact that there's still a negative stigma harbored towards those who have it.

JS: Next is my YA novel "Drag Teen" which comes out from Scholastic on April 26th. It's available for preorder now and I'm genuinely so excited and proud of it. Hope you'll read it!

YOU'RE KILLING ME, an intriguing and unusual mix of horror and romantic comedy, will be released through Wolfe Video on DVD and VOD!
