(OUTscene AMERICA) LA Pride photo gallery!

Photos by GIH.

1. Betty DeGeneres, the mother of the one and only Ellen, marched the parade route with PFLAG which is always one of the most popular groups in the parade. Gays love parents who support us!
2. The one and only Alec Mapa was his usual hilarious self working as a sideline reporter during the parade. He later performed at the Pride festival at West Hollywood Park.
3. Attorney Gloria Allred and her client, transgender Miss Universe contestant Jenna Talackova, were a popular pair along the parade route.

4. It’s Judy Garland on her 90th birthday!!! And she’s with her friend, Bea Arthur! (It’s actually the wonderfully talented Peter Mac as JudyGarland and D.j. Schaefer.)
5. Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is a staunch supporting of the LGBT community.
6. The Abbey’s parade entry paid tribute to the late, great Elizabeth Taylor.

\

by Greg Hernandez

My apologies for the tardiness in getting these photos up from Sunday’s party celebrating the 30th Anniversary of Frontiers magazine. (My red carpet from the GLAAD Media Awards are still to come as well!)

But better late than never!

This was a completely fantastic party at Eleven in West Hollywood and I think everyone who was there had a terrific time.

(OUTscene America) TCM Classic Film Festival: From Liza to Debbie Reynolds, my opening night on the red carpet!

by Greg Hernandez

Last night’s big red carpet kickoff of the TCM Classic Film Festival at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre was a star-studded affair and it was a thrill to be there.

Liza Minnelli was the star attraction as her film Cabaret was kicking things off and such Hollywood legends as Debbie Reynolds, Mickey Rooney, Tippi Hedren, Eva Marie Saint and Robert Wagner lit up the red carpet.

‘I’m always glad to be here,” Miss Reynolds said to me.
Famed film critic and historian Leonard Maltin said it’s an occasion to really cherish these legendary stars: “You have to value the fact that they’re here and alive and well. We can thank them in person instead of thinking about it 10 or 20 years from now.”

(SOAP Q) DAYS Coming Out Party Report!

The stars of DAYS OF OUR LIVES were out in Hollywood this week for the Outfest-sponsored "Coming Out Party" to celebrate Will Horton's gay storyline. The night included a clip reel of scene highlights, panel discussion with cast members Deidre Hall, Chandler Massey, Alison Sweeney, Bryan Dattilo, Lauren Koslow, Wally Kurth and Co-Executive Producer Greg Meng. A short reception followed where the stars met with fans, including welovesoaps' West Coast correspondents John Carrozza and Doug Prinzivalli.

The discussion covered the importance of fitting in this groundbreaking storyline into the fabric of the show and most importantly, the impact of Will's coming-out on all of his relationships. Also noted was the overwhelming positive response from the network, sponsors and fans.

(OUTscene America) EXCLUSIVE: Behind the Scenes of This Week's 'Joan and Melissa"!

Last August, My field producer, Stewart attended Tony Tripoli's show at the celebration theater in LA  and got Exclusive  footage of Tony's Confessional.  Tony told Stewart he was concerned about Lynne, who arrived at the show with Melissa. You see her in the piece trying to hold her wrath!

Joan gives Tony the opportunity to open for her at a stand-up gig in Napa Valley, thinking that if it works out, she just might make him a regular opener for her. When Melissa and fellow comedian Lynne go to scout Tony’s act for Joan, Lynne becomes jealous. She also thinks that Tony’s jokes about Joan’s age and plastic surgery are offensive. Lynne invites Joan to lunch and tells her that Tony is making fun of her. Joan thinks Lynne is acting crazy, but has she succeeded in planting a seed of doubt in Joan? The Plan failed and Joan took Tony's side and had Tony as her opening act in Napa. The highlight was when Tony showed up in Joan's Dressing room in a Thong!

Click to this link to the American Foundation of Equal Rights (AFER) website.

The play, written by Dustin Lance Black, is based on the transcripts of the trial which led to an appeals court striking down California’s Proposition 8 last year.
You won’t want to miss it with such dreamboats as Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Matt Bomer, Matthew Morrison, Kevin Bacon, Rory O’Malley, Chris Colfer and Jesse Tyler Ferguson in the cast.

Others in the cast include Jane Lynch, Jamie Lee Curtis, George Takei, John C. Reilly, Cleve Jones, Campbell Brown and Martin Sheen.

The play is framed by the trial’s historic closing arguments in June 2010, and features the best arguments and testimony from both sides.  Scenes include flashbacks to some of the more memorable moments from trial.

Academy Award-winning screenwriter and AFER Founding Board Member Black based it on the actual words of the trial transcripts, first-hand observations of the courtroom drama and interviews with the plaintiffs and their families.

The one-night only reading is being directed by Rob Reiner, a founding AFER member, and will take place at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles.

The play will be livestreamed over the internet and can be viewed beginning at 7:45 p.m. PST at www.youtube.com/AmericanEqualRights.

PRO: Ewan McGregor Talks ‘Beginners’ and gay roles!

Had the Pleasure of meeting Ewan at the Seattle Premiere of 'Beginners' last May and Now McGregor talked to Frontiers IN LA about the movie, his popularity with gay audiences and more. Here is an excerpt:

DISGRACED: Ric Alonso Resigns from California Pageant Association After His Gay Adult Film Work as 'Jake Cruise' is Exposed!

Kevin Hogan wasn't the only person this week ambushed out of a job for his participation in the gay adult film industry.

AlonsoFOX News reports: Ric Alonso and his partner of 21 years, Ernie Koneck, have both been both prominent power players in the Southern California Scholarship Association — an incorporated not-for-profit association — which produces the Miss Hollywood pageant, an official preliminary to Miss California, and a feeder to Miss America.

Alonso is listed as the first “major sponsor” for 2011 scholarship donations, while partner Koneck has been the pageantry point of contact and is featured in photographs alongside the smiling young sashed pageant contestants.

On Tuesday, Alonso was exposed by RadarOnline as adult film actor and producer "Jake Cruise".

FOX News adds: Following the revelation, Koneck announced his resignation Tuesday as Executive Director of the Southern California Scholarship Association, and said Alonso was in no way involved in the Miss Hollywood pageant, other than to provide scholarship funding.

(OUTscene America) Warren and Wolk Shine in LA's 'Next Fall'!

by MK Scott

As soon as I knew that 'Next Fall' (Produced on Broadway in 2010 by Elton John and David Furnish) was playing in LA for a limited run. I wanted to see the much talked about play of a gay relationship.

I was also thrilled that this production starred legends like Lesley Ann Warren and Jeff Fahey plus the actual playwright (Nauffts) in the Lead role.

The Geffen Playhouse production of “Next Fall,” Geoffrey Nauffts’ drama about a gay couple with stark religious differences — one’s a fundamentalist Christian, the other’s a sarcastic agnostic — proceeds with the somber discretion of someone walking into church after the sermon has begun. The play has many humorous moments, particularly when urban wisecracks are pitted against redneck ripostes. But an autumnal light bathes even the comic aspects of the work, toning down the banter and subduing the punch lines.

(OUTscene AMERICA) The Stars come OUT at the LA Gay & Lesbian Center’s 40th Anniversary Gala!

MK was ThisClose to working the Red Carpet of the LA Gay Center's 40th Anniversary Gala Last Night, but had to Rush off and get to the next destination of his West Coast Tour, San      Francisco. Thank God for my Colleague, Greg in Hollywood for getting the Dirt. Also look for Exclusive Photos and Video:

Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka were charming couple received the Rand Schrader Distinguished Achievement Award.

“We are so honored to be here on the 40th anniversary of this incredible and important institution,” Harris said before slipping into humor and adding: “It’s hard to believe that it’s been years since The Center first invented gays and lesbians. And we are so happy that they did.”

David, taking on the straight man role if you will, added: “More to the point, we are extraordinarily grateful that we are able to stand here today as a same-sex couple with children and not feel like we are some kind of freak show or some kind of government experiment gone awry.”

Neil then paid tribute to other famous gay parents before them like Dan Savage and Cynthia Nixon, BD Wong, Cat Kora. Ricky Martin, Sara Gilbert, Clay Aiken, Rosie O’Donnell, among others who he described as “courageous people who stood tall long before it became acceptable to do so.”

“The fact is, David and I don’t even consider ourselves true activists. There’s a lot of other people who do that heavy lifting. Sometimes we choose to raise our voices so that the world can hear us but other times we just, frankly, we just want to curl up at home and be a family together.”

Neil pointed out that that is part of the great change The Center has brought about in the last 40 years: “They, and all of you, are helping create a world where, for the first time, for gays and lesbians being married and being a parent doesn’t have to be about making a statement. Instead, it can just be about living our lives.”

(OUTscene AMERICA) The Stars come OUT at the LA Gay & Lesbian Center’s Halloweenie party!

photo

 Via GIH

Fred & Jason’s Halloweenie event at the iconic Hollywood Forever Cemetery has quickly become one of the biggest parties of the year.

I attended for the first time on Friday night (nope, not in costume – I was there to cover the arrivals carpet) and was in awe of the scope of this event which benefits the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center.

Thousands of people came – some from as far away as Europe – and enjoyed the sounds from DJs Beau Dasher and Dave Aude.

The arrivals carpet was not as busy as I had hoped with many of the names promised no-shows – at least during the designated 9-11 p.m. arrival time.
