(CLASSIC MOMENTS) 30 days of GH-#26!

General Hospital Turns 50 in 26 Days, and we will be counting down with the Greatest moments in TV History. Today (From 1977 to 1979) Dr. Lesley Williams Faulkner (Denise Alexander) found her teen age long lost daughter, Laura (Genie Francis), and married Dr. Rick Webber (Michael Gregory and then Chris Robinson). Rick's college buddy, David Hamilton (Jerry Ayres), came to stay and was obsessed with Lesley, and was willing to seduce 15 yr old Laura, to get her attention. One Night David made his move told Laura that he was using her. Laura pushed David away and he hit his head and died! Laura Blocked it out and Lesley went to Jail. Later Laura remembered and was put on probation. Boyish Scotty Baldwin (Kin Shriner)  was in Love with Laura, but Super spiteful, Nurse Bobbie Spencer (Jacklyn Zeman) wanted Scotty for herself (She was also hiding her secret past of being a Hooker) and worked hard to break Laura. Bobbie goaded Laura into a Cat fight (a First on GH) and even faked a pregnancy to get Scotty and when that failed got her Bad News Brother, Luke (Anthony Geary) to help her to send Laura to reform school! After one final attempt to get Scotty failed, Bobbie finally backed off. Laura and Scotty married, but trouble was ready to ponce literally.

(IT's WAR) Towleroad Calls Out GH’s Felix As “Lipstick Yielding Gay Male Nurse”! Ron Carlivati Fires Back To Negative Comments, Towle Apologizes!

Courtesy/ABC
A firestorm of controversy had erupted over the last 48 hours on the popular Gay blog, Towleroad!  In a post, Towleroad, after referencing a review from We Love Soaps on the introduction of  the new character of Felix Dubois (played by Marc  Anthony Samuel) on General Hospital took to task what they interpret as a negative portrayal of a gay character.

As many had seen in his first on-screen appearance, the character of Felix carried on him some lipstick.  However Towleroad’s slant on this was, “To establish his character as gay, his first scenes involved him pulling out a tube of lipstick and offering to touch up a heterosexual woman. Oy.”   After this posting, readers to the blog continued on with negative comments,  outrage, and attacks including this one:  “This idiocy from General Hospital  is the equivalent of a blackface minstrel show. With enough ridicule, I hope the producer and writer become a laughing stock, which is what they deserve.”

Rick soon confronts Alan, who is already aware of Alan Jr's paternity and claims the infant. However, Monica later discovers that Alan Jr carries a birthmark identical Alan's and a DNA test later confirms that the child is Alan's son. In 1981, Alan has an affair and had an illegitimate son, Jason with Susan Moore (Gail Ramsay). Monica and Alan separate when he moves in with Susan, and Monica files for sole custody of Alan Jr. However, they soon reconcile and Susan sues the Quartermaines for Jason's inheritance. (SOAP Q) Franco in Catfight Over His 'Petty' Writing!

Diva Alert: James Franco is in a bit of a tiff with a New York Observer writer over his series of columns on the Huffington Post. Writer Drew Grant took issue with the fact that Franco addressed New Orleans ghost tours in his column, rather than something more substantive like politics. Franco responded in yesterday’s column, where he first slammed the Observer for being “a newspaper owned by Donald Trump's son-in-law that is perhaps best known for publishing a sex column in the mid-1990s.”

He goes on to explain that he didn’t discuss politics—specifically President Obama’s stance on gay marriage—because there’s “enough talk about that already,” and “plus, who wants to hear an actor’s take on it anyway?” He chose his topic because it seemed interesting, he concludes, and the real question is why “the great journalists at the New York Observer” are, “instead of covering pressing world issues, … covering my writing, which they claim to consider petty.”

Click for his full column, which somehow segues into the topic of commencement speeches.

(SOAP Q) Franco Channels Kevin Federline!

James_franco
James Franco isn't playing gay this time.
Writes Vulture: "Selena Gomez just tweeted a photo from the set of her new film, Spring Breakers, which Harmony Korine is directing. As you can see, her co-star James Franco has gone full Federline, with forearm tattoos, cornrows, a pinkie ring, and an unearned proximity to beautiful women."

The show, formerly known as REACH FOR THE STARS, is based on a Mexican series about a shy girl who becomes a pop star after winning a songwriting competition. Along the way, she befriends a mega-rock-star — who is of course her celebrity crush.

HEIGHTS premieres in June and will air five nights a week, but it's not clear yet when Franco's arc starts or what Franco's role entails. Jill Farren Phelps is executive producer.

(SOAP Q) General Hospital: A New Beginning or a Dead End?

by Ed Martin

Watching General Hospital these last two weeks, as the energetic efforts of One Life to Live veterans Frank Valentini and Ron Carlivati to save the show from almost certain doom begin to play out, it occurs to me that my time as a fan of this once-formidable serial has come full circle. I began watching GH in 1978, shortly after fearless executive producer Gloria Monty had been brought on board to save the show from seemingly certain cancellation. In fact, as legend has it, GH at the time had sunk so low in the ratings it was given only a few months to reverse its failing fortunes or be cancelled.

(SOAP Q) ‘One Life’ Headwriter Sets the Record Straight About Finale, Move to ‘GH'!’

This weekend LIFE’s headwriter Ron Carlivati participated in a lengthy podcast for Daytime Confidential. He addressed both the finale and his plans for his new show, “General Hospital.” I recommend listening, both for the information that he reveals and the insight he gives into the daytime writing process.
