LA Pride Parade recap: Johnny Weir a proud grand marshal; Margaret Cho proud of LGBT community

The Following was Posted by Greg Hernandez on his Site, Greg in Hollywood

Attorney Gloria Allred, a parade regular who this year rode the route flanked by a posse of “Glorias,” first appeared before the press with her client, California corrections officer Andrew Johnson.

Johnson had complained very publicly that his department would not allow him to attend LA Pride in uniform. But once Allred got on the case, much publicity ensued. The department ended up reversing its decision and allowed Johnson to wear his uniform.

The furor over comedian Tracy Morgan’s recent homophobic rant during a stand-up act was on the minds of some of those involved in the parade – especially his remark that he would stab his son to death if he were to find out he was gay.

Rodney Scott, President of Christopher Street West, the organization that organizes LA Pride, grew emotional when he talked about it. He stood next to a 16-year-old gay male and said tearfully: “Can you imagine him coming home, telling his parents that he is gay, and his father stabbing him?”
He added: “Tracy, you owe this entire community an apology. To make a statement that you would stab your own child. It’s not acceptable.”

Johnny Weir named L.A. gay pride grand marshal

Johnny Werr and Martin Liberman at HRC NW Dinner
Sept 2010.
"Pop Star on Ice" and "Skating With the Stars" judge Johnny Weir has been named grand marshal of the 2011 L.A. Gay Pride Parade, Reuters reports.

The openly gay three-time U.S. figure skating champion and star of "Be Good Johnny Weir" has been an advocate for gay rights and will oversee the June 12 parade as it travels along Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood.

"Johnny lives a life with a defined purpose, is dedicated to helping young people and is not afraid to be himself, sometimes not always an easy thing for a world-class athlete," said Christopher Street West board president Rodney Scott.

Said Weir: "I'm not ashamed to be me. More than anyone else I know, I love my life and accept myself. What's wrong with being unique? I am proud of everything that I am and will become," the two-time Olympian said.

The 41st annual Los Angeles Pride Parade draws more than 400,000 people to West Hollywood for a weekend of events celebrating gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender visibility. It is organized by Christopher Street West, the group that produced the first LGBT Pride Parade.

Previous grand marshals have included Sharon and Kelly Osbourne, Chelsea Handler, Cyndi Lauper and Kathy Griffin.

OUTscene: Sen. Patty Murray, Johnny Weir highlight the Pacific NW HRC Dinner!

By M.K. Scott
OUTscene Editor

620 of Seattle's LGBT elite came out this past Saturday to the 2010 Pacific NW HRC Dinner. Ryan and I attended the silent auction prior to the dinner where Married With Children's Amanda Bearse was spotted. At the Dinner, the appearance of Sen. Patty Murray solidified her upcoming re-election win.

HRC's President, Joe Solmonese updated us of what HRC is doing and the reaction to the DADT  dead lock and It was refreshing that they were less corporate compared to last year.

The Equality award went to Janice Langbehn, for her work for LGBT Equality after the death of her partner in Florida, and her children were not allowed to see her. Langbehn said in her acceptance speech that one of the Hospital administrators (Who is still employed) said this is an "anti-gay hospital in an anti-gay state". Since 2007, Langbehn has spoken to large crowds about changing laws related to visitation for same-sex couples.

The Visibility award went to Johhny Weir, the Adam Lambert of Men's figure skating. Weir is known around the world as the "People's Skater".

After the dinner, everyone came to the post-party to grab a moment with Johnny. First in line were Ryan and myself, of course!

FASHION: Presenting Miss USA Forever (In My Head)

Johnny Weir was a judge at last night's Miss Purdy Face 2010 when he really should've been on the stage demonstrating to those simple queens what the true definition of high glamour is. BOW DOWN. Johnny doesn't need to strut around in a two-piece to show America that he has natural grace running through the veins in his toes all the way up to the highest point on his follicles. All he has to do is show up in a bolero made of Muppet orgasms.

Actually, Johnny didn't show up wearing that jacket. The other queens found his beauty so inexcusable that when he was gliding across the hallways past them, they ripped the feathers from their evening gowns and threw that shit at him. The feathers clung to Johnny creating the glamorous spectacle you see before you. Those queens tried to dim Johnny's gorgeousness, but they only enhanced it. Johnny wears their hate and jealousy well.

Unfortunately, Johnny wasn't crowned Miss USA last night. Miss Michigan Rima Fakih was. Rima is either the first or the second Arab-American woman to ever be crowned Miss USA.
It wouldn't be a Miss USA pageant without someone screaming "ESCANDALO!" Although, this is about as scandalous as another ho dropping out of Tiger Woods' ass crack. Mojo in the Morning posted a few pictures of Rima wearing more than she did during last night's swimsuit competition while riding a stripper pole during a contest in 2007. The toddler who won Little Miss Miss 2010 probably has more scandalous pictures out there.

And since Rima tripped on her gown and referred to birth control as a "controlled substance," some crazy bitches are saying she only won because of political correctness. Some conservatives also used the "affirmative action" phrase. Jezebel has a complete run down if you want to get into that.

But seriously, why are people freaking out over a competition where the winner receives a year-supply of Nina Shoes. I mean, NINA SHOES! If Nina Shoes is involved, it's not that serious. Chinese Laundry on the other hand.....

News Flash: Stars on Ice: Skater Weir 'Not Family Friendly'

The outfit that trots out figure-skating notables for its regular Stars on Ice tour has proclaimed notably flamboyant American Olympic Johnny Weir “not family friendly” and refuse to have him along, sources tell a blogger for GLAAD (the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation). Weir hasn’t publicly stated his sexual orientation, Lauren Mattia notes, though his style has won him plenty of fans in the LGBT community.

But “to say that Weir is ‘not family friendly’ would be a clear jab at his perceived sexual orientation,” Mattia huffs, before eventually plugging a petition here urging Smuckers and IMG Entertainment to change their minds. “Weir is extremely involved with his family. He is putting his younger brother through college, and supports the family financially because his father’s disability prohibits him from working.”

News Flash: Johnny Weir Says Men's Figure Skating Is Not a 'Gay Sport'

Today marks the Opening of the winter Olympics and what could be Gayer than Men's figure skating, especially with the cute and flamboyant Johnny Weir!

Flamboyant American figure skater Johnny Weir says it's a "misconception" that men's figure skating is a "gay sport." In an interview that will air on HBO's Real Sports on Feb. 9, interviewer Frank Deford asks Weir: "Do you think the fact that some people dismiss figure skating as gay hurts the sport?"Weir, a self-described "effeminate person" who likes "sparkly things," gets to the heart of what men don't like about the sport, and also takes a dig at America's favorite pastime."I know for the men's population of the United States, figure skating is a gay sport," but Weir adds, "there are so many straight athletes in figure skating."But why do many American men really dislike the sport?"I think it's the music and costumes that turn most men off," says Weir, who is known for his glitzy costumes. "They want to see spandex men hitting each other's ass and throwing a ball. It's very different," he says sarcastically. On his Web site, Weir lists the New York Giants as one of his favorite teams. Other favorites listed include furs (chinchilla, sable, beaver), weather (rain, thunderstorms, full moons) and poets (Tolstoy, Pushkin). As for his sexuality? He touched on it here. "I don't feel the need to express my sexual being because it's not part of my sport and it's private," Weir said. "I can sleep with whomever I choose and it doesn't affect what I'm doing on the ice, so speculation is speculation."Weir, 25, a three-time U.S. national champion, will be vying for his first Olympic medal at the Vancouver Games, which start Friday.
