| "Boys Beware" was Funny, But a shocker! |
The ominous pauses, old-timey music, hokey special effects—yes, anti-gay-marriage ads can be "comically bad," reports
Mother Jones. The mag picks five that are unintentionally funny:
- "That's Not the Change I Voted For"
by the Campaign for American Values PAC (2012). Best line: "Obama is
trying to force gay marriage on this country. That's not the change I
voted for." Oh, she voted for Obama?
- "I'm Confused"
by the National Organization for Marriage (2009). Best line: "My
teacher says if Grandpa was a girl, that's OK, you can still be
married."
- "Boys Beware" by the Inglewood,
California, Police Department and School District (1961). Best line: "No
matter where you meet a stranger, be careful if they are too friendly.
One never knows when the homosexual is about."
- "War on Religion"
by Texas Gov. Rick Perry (2011). Best line: "You don't need to be in
the pew every Sunday to know that there's something wrong in this
country when gays can serve openly in the military but our kids can't
openly celebrate Christmas or pray in school." What's that about
Christmas, again?
- "A Storm Is Coming" by the
National Organization for Marriage (2009). Best line: "I'm a
Massachusetts parent helplessly watching public schools teach my son
that gay marriage is OK."
