OUTview''s "PAL" of 2016 is......!

LEON ACORD:

2016 Started out as an average one for the star and creator of 'Old Dogs and New Tricks with a FAB Special and gearing up for the shows 4th and final season in 2017, plus co-starring in Bruce Hart's new indie flick, 'OPEN'.So how did our "Pal", Acord became part of one of 2016's biggest scandals?
According to TowleroadLeon was not happy when he heard L.A. talk radio host Susan Olsen (formerly Cindy Brady of The Brady Bunch), “spewing” misinformation and decided to call her out on it. Sheena Metal and Olsen host the show ‘Two Chicks Talkin’ Politics’.

Said Acord:“It is wildly irresponsible for LA Talk Radio to allow a Trump fanatic to co-host one of their programs, where she can spew her idiotic lies unchecked. (Being a liberal and a patriot are mutually exclusive? Hillary is causing the protests & hate crimes? The Koran is a political tract?) As much as I love Sheena Metal, I think LA Talk Radio needs to give “Cindy Brady” her walking papers. I will not listen to or appear on any shows there from this point forward until she’s gone. This isn’t just disagreeing on, say, tax plans or foreign policy. Susan Olsen spreads outrageous misinformation & it is dangerous and unprofessional.”

Olsen responded by reposting his comment and sending her followers to get him. Said Olsen: “This is the little piece of human waste. He blocked himself from me before I could even get one hit in. If you can find him, please send him my love.”

With all the coverage from LGBT and mainstream media (Even Wendy Williams talked about it),   Olsen was fired from LA Talk Radio. We applaud our Pal, Acord on his courage and strength  who happened to win this battle with a TV Icon with Class and grace. This is why, Leon Acord deserves to be our PAL of the year!

Honorable Mention(s):

ROBBIE TURNER:

After Jinkx Monsoon and Ben DeLa Creme, Seattle had Robbie Turner, a drag superstar who sings, dances and bitches like no other. So it was inevitable when  early 2016, Turner was announced to be on the 8th season of Rupaul's Drag Race, the rumors had been running since that past July when Turner suddenly vanished. In October 2015, we asked her if the rumors were true and she denied that they were true. She Lied! Are we bitter? Hell No! We expect it from her, the Bitch with a heart of gold. Turner came in 7th place. The worst part of sudden fame is she's been traveling and touring a lot and had to drop out of few Seattle based hosting gigs. Let's hope Robbie comes home soon and continues to shine.FYI..Robbie Turner was on our list last year!

DOMINIC HOLDEN:

In the fall of 2014, Seattle bid adieu to former Stranger News Editor, Dominic Holden as he made the move to New York City and was hired almost immediately at Buzzfeed as a National LGBT Reporter.

Last Fall, Holden received the 2016 Journalist of the Year award from the National Lesbian and Gay Journalism Association at their annual convention in South Beach, FL.

In a recent NLGJA press release, one judge wrote, 'Holden presents a really strong mix of thoughtful trans stories, a good take on familiar subject matter, some really strong characters and good depth.' Holden additionally took second place in News Writing (Non-Daily) for 'Why Are Black Transgender Women Getting Killed in Detroit?'

I reached out to Holden (Back in September for the Seattle Gay News) for a comment and he responded: 'This award is really a recognition of BuzzFeed's overall smarts and dedication to LGBT issues. They haven't treated this like a niche, but a beat worth investing time and energy in.'

Enjoy the ride, Dom!
