Didn’t I tell she was coming back? At the end of last week’s episode, RuPaul announced that a banished queen would be returning to the competition. It was my hope that ‘the chosen one’ would be Kenya Michaels. She’s young, fresh, full of fire, and she left way to early. Lo and behold, the bitch returned. I knew it had to be her. None of the other queens, with the exception of Willam, could compete against the ‘Final Fab Four’. This is how it all went down…
This week’s episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race (Season 4/Episode 10) was the DILF episode. DILF meaning ‘Dads I’d Like to Frock’. To start with, the mini-challenge was giving a teddy bear a makeover. Kenya Michaels was winner of the mini-challenge.
For the main challenge, each of the girls were paired up with a DILF they had to makeover as their Drag Mother. And just to make things a little bit more interesting, everyone had to wear a baby-bump. As the winner of the mini-challenge, Kenya Michaels got to choose which dad got paired with which queen. This was a perfect opportunity for Kenya to turn the competition upside down, and get rid of either Sharon Needles or Latrice Royale. All she had to do was pair the black dad up with Sharon Needles. And pair the one she gave to Sharon with Latrice Royale. Instead she chose the PC (politically correct) route, and paired the only black dad up with the only black queen in the competition. She did give Sharon the most ‘Henry Rollins’ looking of all the dads, but the trick didn’t work. Sharon Needles tricked that man out, and transformed him into ‘Mama Sharon’. The judges rewarded her efforts and deemed her safe.
PhiPhi O’Hara was the winner of this week’s main challenge, and she definitely deserved to win. PhiPhi and her DILF resembled each other the most out of all of the teams. They also seemed to have the most chemistry, and flawless runway looks. I don’t have one critical word to say about the the girl this week.
As for the rest of the girls…Sharon Needles was deemed safe, and so was Chad Michaels. Leaving Latrice Royale and Kenya Michaels in the bottom two, which I thought was definitely an appropriate decision. Latrice Royale didn’t look nothing like her DILF. And poor poor Kenya Michaels chose looks over personality, which resulted in poor poor chemistry. They had to ‘lip-sync for their life’ to Aretha Franklin’s “You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman”. At first, I thought Kenya Michaels was going to take Latrice down with this lip-sync. Kenya was giving an interpretive dance like performance, and was working the entire stage. While Latrice Royale gave a more traditional ‘Aretha Franklin’ impersonation, where she didn’t work the stage, but she definitely communicated the story of the song through body language and her facial expressions. It would have been a close one to call until Kenya Michaels broke my cardinal rule, and she took her wig off. And that’s when the decision was made.
Latrice Royale got to ‘stay’, and Kenya Michaels had to ‘sashay away’ yet again. I’m glad she got a second chance, but I think she’s still trying on different hats to find out which persona works best for her. She is a young queen mind you, and still has a lot of growing and learning to do. Nevertheless, I expect great things from Kenya Michaels.
The ‘Final Fab Four’ (Chad Michaels; PhiPhi O’Hara; Sharon Needles; Latrice Royale) showed their resilience this this episode. However, there can only be one ‘Drag Race Super Star’, and I still got my money on Sharon Needles. But who knows? She might ‘break a rule’ or something. It’s happened before.
