Motown Legend, Gladys Knight was in the bottom two with Disney star
Roshon. This would be an interesting dance duel, a contrast of young and
old (or should I say, classic/seasoned — I hesitated to call Gladys
old, but dance is like an athletic endeavor, after all). Host Tom Bergeron
interviewed the two bottom-dwellers to extend the suspense. The couples
would be dancing jive, a hard dance for the duel and I thought this
would definitely benefit Roshon’s hip-hop energy. Poor Gladys! This
seemed way unfair.
The dance duel began with the pairs performing simultaneously
Already, Roshon looked much more limber than Gladys, although she kept
up gamely with Tristan’s choreography. It was a short duel, but nice to
see the more-seasoned competitor giving it her best shot. It was like
comparing apples and oranges.
Judge Carrie Ann Inaba said both styles were beautiful and Gladys was in control and confident. Len Goodman said both of them handled the pressure of the jive very well. Bruno Tonioli
called Gladys unique and special — and felt Roshon had immaculate
timing. Wow, the judges were going to look really mean if they chose
Roshon!
Carrie Ann wanted to save Gladys, Len wanted to save Roshon, so what
did Bruno say? Bruno went with Roshon and Chelsie, so Gladys was going
home! (I truly believed they kept her there just so she would be there for Motown Week.
So sad to see the singer go during Motown week. She smiled and said she
was amazed by the journey, with Tristan smiling at her side.
