Jack-of-many-art-ish trades James Franco is debuting his first solo art show in a Berlin gallery this week. The images focus on childhood and memories, and on "coming of age or defining oneself and the kind of self-definition that comes when you're younger," the actor tells Der Spiegel. The exhibit, "The Dangerous Book Four Boys," includes photos, drawings, sculptures and videos, some done in collaboration with other artists. "He uses himself as a subject matter and as an ingredient in the art work like a painter would use oil on canvas," said the gallery owner.
Franco, who has run acting workshops and is currently pursuing graduate studies at Yale, admits his latest endeavor makes him vulnerable to charges of being a dilettante. "I think most people are skeptical of an actor having an art show at a legitimate art gallery," he says. "I think there's a larger obstacle for actors."
Franco, the serial Killing artist returns to General Hospital on Friday, Feb. 25th.
