I don’t know about you, but I think the producers of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars owe us one, Greg in Hollywood.
The inclusion of Bristol Palin, the daughter of a vice presidential candidate and a teen mom, on the show this season has really stretched the definition of the term “star” more than any other contestant selected for the reality competition during its 11 seasons.
So I’d like to propose that the show choose someone who wants to do it and who is a true American hero: 4-time Olympic Gold Medalist Greg Louganis, the greatest diver in the history of our country.
I read in a recent issue of the Palm Springs magazine The Bottom Line that Greg is mighty eager to participate: “We have been pushing for that. We have been campaigning for the past year-and-a-half to get on. I wanted to do the show since the second season with Mario Lopez [who played Greg in the TV movie Breaking the Surface: The Greg Louganis Story] and I talked to him when we did my movie. … When he did it I thought, I would love to do that show. It would be so much fun … we are still plugging away. We have not received a definite “no.”
The show could certainly be more gay inclusive. Lance Bass has been the only openly-gay celebrity to participate so far. Greg has such grace with his diving and he’s also an actor who knows how to perform. He would be a joy to watch!
A few Facebook pages have been started so sign up! It worked for Betty White and Saturday Night Live and it can work for a great Olympic hero!
Also on the DWTS wish list is Candis Cayne. There is a Facebook Campaign is already under the way!
