(OUTview NW) INTER-view: The Real Housewives Parody Hits Seattle This Week, and we got the Scoop from "Desiree" herself, Actress, EMJOY GAVINO!

Desiree (2nd from L) is the Nice One
by MK Scott

Call your best frenemies now and get tickets for this performance brimming with brawls, booze and Botox. The Realish Housewives are fully loaded and ready to take on North America.

Get ready for loony ladies Rovanka, Claudia Louise, Gwen, Desiree, Brooke and your host Randy (Not Andy)  to take on the current events and people making headlines in your hometown. The audience even gets in on the act! This is one reality trainwreck that’ll leave you laughing ‘til you cry your false eyelashes off!

The Realish Housewives hit Seattle weeekend at the Moore and I had a chance to chat with actress, Emjoy Gavino who plays the Nice and Naive, Desiree:

Before Desiree (Mazzo)
MK SCOTT:  Welcome to Seattle! Have you ever been Here?

EMJOY GAVINO:  It's so wonderful to be back! I grew up in the Pacific Northwest, I have family and dear friends here and will always consider it home. The scene here gave me my start as an artist at incredible theaters like Repertory Actors Theatre (ReAct), Village and 5th Avenue Theatre. I feel so fortunate to be able to be back on a Seattle stage again.

MK: Tell us about Desiree?

EMJOY: The Realish Housewives: A Parody is a hilarious new work written by Second City writers, Kate James and Tim Sniffen who are based in Chicago. It takes the format of a reality television show to a new level of ridiculous in the best way possible. And just like any great comedy, you have characters you love to hate and hate to love. Desiree does not have a mean or manipulative bone in her body. She doesn't always know what is going on, and subtext is often lost on her, but she is sweet and well-meaning. When she isn't attending soirees with her friends or enjoying frozen yogurt, she is hard at work as a neck model.

MK:  How did you get involved?

EMJOY: There was a general audition which was taped so that our director, Eric Hoff (who actually went to school at Seattle Pacific University) could narrow down the choices. I read for Desiree at that audition using scenes from the script, and then attended an amazingly fun group callback where we were asked to improvise together in character. I don't remember laughing harder or having more fun at an audition. We have a lot of really talented funny actresses in this show.

MK:  Who is your Favorite Housewife?

EMJOY: I've actually just started watching the current season of Real Housewives of Potomac. It is a FASCINATING character study. I don't have a favorite housewife yet, but I'm really enjoying watching all of them for research. The franchise has been going on for several years and I think it's so popular because the women they place together on these shows are so dynamic. They are larger than life and offer us a glimpse into somewhat of a fantasy world.

MK:  and Finally, what is your Housewife tag line?

EMJOY: Desiree’s Tagline: "I always stick my neck out for my friends. Maybe that's because I'm a neck model!"

MK, Also a fun fact, the writers localize the script for each market, Definitely expect shout outs to local celebrities, neighborhoods and businesses. And I'd put money on a few coffee references. As we continue exploring the city throughout the week, the script may continue to change...

The Realish Housewives of Seattle plays the Seattle Moore Theater for this weeend only, Feb 11-14. Click HERE for TIX.
