(OUTview NW) CABARET RE-view: Seattle Vice is BACK and is 'PURE' Entetainment!

(John Cornicello)
by MK Scott

I admit I never saw last year's sold out run  of ACTLab's Seattle Vice, and I am so glad I waited because the show is back with more musical acts, a larger cast, a revised script, a bigger band, and more (incredible) dance numbers.

The new venue works perfectly for more reasons than one. The Triple Door - was once the historical home of The Embassy, once a XXX burlesque and vaudeville theatre. You feel you are taken back to the 1950's and 60's to a ritzy, jazz club that you only see in the movies.

Inspired by the book Seattle Vice by Rick Anderson, this cabaret musical set in 1965 combines dancing, comedy, and original music created by Mark Siano (Bohemia, The Habit, Soft Rock Kid) and Opal Peachey (Bohemia, Modern Luv, CafĂ© Nordo). A lively, historical peep-show, Seattle Vice is an immersive experience that takes the audience underground into one of Frank Colacurcio's (Jeff Spaulding) notorious night clubs. Vice tells the story of how Colacurcio came to dominate vice and crime during Seattle’s infamous “anything goes” era.

Seattle Vice features nightly guest burlesque and cabaret performers and is accompanied by the live seven piece band The Enablers.

Goueli (w/ Peachey) shows more than his ass-ets!
Seattle Vice is more than a regular Burlesque show, it is a Pure Entertaining experience. The story tells the story of how Seattle burlesque turned into prostitution and triple X lap dancers.

The story centers on Gil  (Siano), the appealing vocalist double-crossed by Frank Colacurcio (Spaulding). and Miss Washington 1957, Rose Marie Williams (Peachey) is the golden-throated songstress and compassionate madam. There’s a corrupt police chief, inside jokes and jabs at the Seattle mindset, and people who will do anything for money. But the story serves best as a vehicle on which to hang song and dance routines and provide opportunity to watch beautiful young women and men strut their stuff.

We first meet the women as they serve drinks before the show. With their arms sheathed in long, long red gloves, they prance about on high heels. Sexy stockings held up by garter belts encase their legs, and scanty black bustiers show every curve in very Kit Kat Klub-style.

When music director John Kranz gives the signal to his five-piece band, lively music fills the room. Out come those delicious-looking women along with their two male colleagues, all forming a high-kicking chorus line, and the fun begins. Nicole Beerman’s choreography is both sprightly and sexy, and these young dancers never miss a beat.

Another highlight is the appearance of Seattle's male burlesque star, Hisam Goueli who is the hottest guy in the cast and even comes out fully nude as Siano fights to keep a straight face. Even though Goueli was dancing with women most of the time, it was nice to see a sensual dance with another male d ancer.

Seattle Vice is such nostalgic entertainment that it needs to be a regular show, and run several months a year.

Get Tickets quick, this is expected to sell out. Seattle Vice continues at the Triple Door through Sun, 1/31. Click HERE for Tix.
