(MK SCOTT) EXCLUSIVE: MK's 'Joint' PRIDE Inter-view with Cazwell AND Amanda Lepore!

MK w/ Amanda at the Cuff pride Party
by MK Scott

In the last 2 years, Seattle Pride to me means more Celebs coming to town. In 2010, chatting with Julie Goldman at Pridefest was a highlight as was last year with a full, on camera interview with old pal, Armistead Maupin. This year was no exception, 2 artists from the New York club scene in town at Seattle Pride each performing only 3 miles apart. 2 artists that know and have worked together not to mention respect each other. Gay Rapper, Cazwell (in a Noisy Tent) was just about to start a 30 min. DJ session at the DJ Stage at Pride Fest in Seattle Center.

Meanwhile, Transgendered recording artist, Amanda Lepore was on stage at the Cuff Block party in Capitol Hill. I had only 20 min. to travel, I made it up to Amanda, right after her set, and we spoke in her trailer.

So the following is my attempt at a Joint interview about Pride and working with each other:

MK: What does Pride mean too?

Cazwell: I am out there more than anybody else, and really think about it. So it’s … also quite a weekend and quite a celebration that you don’t need to...

Lepore:  I think it’s really, you know, loving yourself, and you know, gay people and transgendered people, and lesbians really go through, you know, it’s hard, when you’re a kid, so if you can stand with pride, you know, it’s really for the kids, and for everybody to celebrate. Certainly it’s for the kids to have, you know, role models, and that they could get the best through hard times. So they could feel good about being different.

MK: Do you have a particular pride that stood out for you?

Lepore: I think that all of them do, but half of the time I do, you know, this guy came up to me and if one gender was more important than the other, you know,  I can’t take it personal, you know, just being proud and having a strong message to kids, you know, that whether you’re transgendered or gay, even so, but they’re told, you know, that they can get out of a bad situation, that’s [].

MK: Cazwell, you have worked with Amanda, How do you enjoy working with her?

Cazwell: She’s a very nice person, one of my favorite people. She’s really kind, doesn’t talk shit about anybody. She doesn’t say anything that is bad.

MK: Amanda, What do you think of Cazwell?

Lepore: I think that he was such a gentleman, to make me really respected, you know, or the  You know, I think we were working at the same nightclub. You know, he really helped me a lot. I like to, you know, perform.

MK: Now that it’s been 2 years since the It Gets better project has started, has it gotten Better?

Cazwell: Uh … that’s a tough one because everybody can go and I kind of feel like, I feel like It's inspirational [], so I think some.

MK: And Amanda, what advice would you give to transgendered kids?

Lepore: I think that, you know, when you’re having a good time and everything that a bad time, in school and all that, I would want them to realize that things will get better and that should. Like a pink dress or children and actually like celebrate it. I think you can do that but [].

Thank you for coming to Seattle, and I look forward to seeing you (both) come back here again in the future.
