OBIT: Human League Producer, 'Golden Girls' Theme SongwriterBoth Die!!

Two noted deaths in the music/80's pop culture world this week.
Rushent Andrew Gold, the singer-songwriter behind the Golden Girls theme song "Thank You for Being a Friend": He was 59. Gold died in his sleep Friday from an heart attack, his sister, Melani Gold Friedman, told the Los Angeles Times. She said he had been responding well to cancer treatment.

And the producer of the Human League classic "Don't You Want Me", Martin Rushent (pictured) has died at 63: Rushent's musical legacy went beyond [the Human League's] 'Dare.' The engineer who started work in the early 70s -- engineering albums by the likes of Fleetwood Mac, Shirley Bassey and T.Rex -- is also credited with producing the early punk sound.

He produced the first records by Buzzcocks, the Stranglers, XTC and Generation X -- even Altered Images' 'Happy Birthday' -- to name a few, perfecting what became an almost trademark style for simplified keyboards and other instruments.
