"Man bags" aren't just for metrosexuals anymore, but the increase in satchel-wearing has been accompanied by an increase in back problems, experts warn. The bags have largely replaced briefcases, but people cram so many electronic gadgets and items into them that the average bag now weighs close to 14 pounds, say chiropractors, who advise men to keep the straps short, alternate which shoulder they carry their bag on, and keep the load to a minimum.
"Man bags are now a necessity for many men during their daily lives, but they could cause back and shoulder pain from prolonged stress," a spokesman for the British Chiropractic Association tells the Telegraph. "The bags serve a purpose so we need to become more savvy in how we use them, while learning to read our bodies and know when we’re placing too much pressure on certain points.”
