The last two nights on American Idol have just been brutal and I think several of the contestants have been judged far too harshly by the judges – especially Simon Cowell who seems determined to make his last season his most cruel.
I know Simon is known for this but I was actually angry watching him this week because he was actually abusive to a few contestants, almost all of whom were singing on live national television for the first time. There is Simon with all the power and money and arrogance and there they are standing before the world vulnerable. I don’t think they need to be humiliated.
Plus, I just don’t agree with him sometimes. Tuesday night, he slammed the adorable Haley Vaughn who I thought was so sweet singing I Wanna Hold Your Hand and playing a big red guitar. She was smiling throughout and she reminded me a bit of a young Diana Ross. Simon called her performance “a mess” and, thank God for Ellen DeGeneres who quickly remarked: “If it was a mess, it was a hot mess!”
And then last night, he made this completely bitchy comment to poor Tim Urban, a cute kid who made the top 24 as a last-minute replacement. His version of Apologize was not very good but did Simon really have to say: “We absolutely made the right decision the first time around by not putting you through based on that performance.”
I also quite enjoyed Andrew Garcia’s acoustic take on Fall Out Boy’s Sugar We’re Going Down but Simon proclaimed it “too serious, too indulgent and not original enough.”
Anyway, I have NO IDEA who will be eliminated tonight since, according to Simon, at least half of them don’t deserve another chance. In all, the two girls and two guys with the lowest vote totals will be sent home.

Can’t we send Simon home instea
