Another concert on my bucket list was finally fulfilled on Thurs, August 11th, when Culture Club toured the US for the first time in 15 years with a visit at Chateau Ste. Michelle's summer concert series in Woodinville.
With Boy George's muse (and ex-lover), Jon Moss taking center stage at his drum set and followed by Roy Hay and Mikey Craig and finally Boy George, 55, himself belting out Church of the Poison Mind without Helen Terry, but with the key backupsinger mimicking her voice perfectly. Boy George's voice sounded lower (ongoing throat issues) but didn't disappoint.
The dancing was instantaneous and the 80's were back with It's a Miracle (Dreams are made from emotion), then followed by I'll Tumble 4 Ya and Move away (a song I heard in the Gay club in 1986 as I was coming out) and Time (Clock of the Heart).
Then the mood change to the slow moving Everything I Own to the soulful, Black Money (which was mostly carried by the backup singers).
The Best new song (from 2014) I had never heard before was Like I Used To, with a good beat and relate-table lyrics of "I don't do emotion like I use to" with a New song with the Mature, Different Man to be on their new album, 'Tribes' out in early 2017 in time for Culture Club's 35th anniversary of 'Kissing to be clever'
More hits came with Miss Me Blind, Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?, Victims and, The War Song (Still Stupid).
As expected, Karma Chameleon was the encore along with a surprising choice of the Power Station's cover of Get It On.
Could it be that the Boy has finally matured and grown up? Time will see if it is a Miracle or just Kissing to be clever.
