When I heard that Seattle Rep was doing a "Campy One Act Dark Comedy" about 3 professional women, I knew that there would be some backstabbing, but wow! The Comparables by Laura Schellhardt gives off that 'Devil Wears Prada' vibe with a little of Bravo's Million Dollar Listing/Real Housewives thrown in to make it a little more 2014.
Bette (Linda Gehringer, louder than Meryl's Miranda) is a middle-aged, feminist mogul known for hiring female employees. Judging by how she terrorizes her trusted associate Monica (Cheyenne Casebier), Bette is truly ruthless.
Glossily coifed and prime-timed to host a new reality show (a Felmale Million Dollar Listing meets Real Housewives), Bitchy Bette barks and belittles, peppering baffling mini-lectures on women in the workplace with strange metaphors.
Monica (a Emly Blunt/Anne Hathaway combo), the mousy good soldier who has doggedly earned her turn at the top — as she confides into the narrative device of a recorded diary.
You can bet Monica is a little spooked by younger job applicant Iris (Keiko Green,Think Melanie Griffith in 'Working Girl') All Iris wants is the Executive Office and will use Sex appeal to get it, even flirting with clients.
Two women vying to be the next top dog could be the setup for a nasty, politically retro, shrewdly plotted race to the top. Especially after Monica and Iris join forces to foil another potential rival.
Instead, Monica has a preposterous change of heart and strategy and actually stoops to Iris' level. The Best part was the knock down Cat Fight of Monica and Iris at the end and it truly gets violent.

The message is just because you work in an all female office, doesn't mean it is smooth sailing. The competition is fierce and only one woman comes out on top, the one with the power.
