(SLGFF 2014) WRAP UP: The Best, Good, Fair and Worst Films, according to MK!

Now that the 2014 Seattle Lesbian and Gay Film Festival is over I could now reveal my Picks for the Best, Good, Fair, and Bad films coming to a Film Fest, Theater or DVD in the coming year.

BEST
Narrative: 
The CIRCLE (Switzerland)-Part Narrative and Part Documentary you get full story of 2 lovers that met in a secret society in 1950's Switzerland and are treated like Criminals during a Murder Investigation. BEAUTIFUL!

Pride (Special Event)-Not Part of the Fest, this was a Preview a week before the Opening and one of the Best films regarding 1980's Britain, since Kinky Boots and Billy Elliott. Watch this will be adapted into a Broadway Musical at some point. This film will make you jump for JOY!

DOC: 
Limited Partnership (USA)- Back in 1975, Colorado started issuing Marriage Licenses to same sex couples and  Tony Sullivan (native from Australia) marries (Filipino-American) Richard Adams, but as the First Bi-National Couple, they are called the F-Word by INS and are forced to leave the country together or apart. They choose to fight and were only parted by death, Bring the tissues, It is EMOTIONAL!

Regarding Susan Sontag (USA) -The Lesbian version of last year's hit, BIG JOY: The James Boughton Story.

Back on Board (USA)- Olympic Legend, Greg Louganis is about ready to lose his house and live in a trailer, when he is called upon to be a mentor  for the Olympics to meeting and marrying his true Love and as we see his story unfold during the good and rough times, Louganis shows he is a survivor and a true Hero. Yes, There was a standing ovation.

GOOD
Narrative:
Match (USA)-It is Jeffery's "Sterling" 20 years later, Patrick Stewart gives an  Oscar Worthy, Tour- de-force performance as a less Flamboyant, Lonely Ballet instructor that brings a young couple into his home under false pre-tenses. The young man (Matthew Lillard) is a Homo-phobe cop from Seattle (Yes, Really) and forces Stewart to admit some hard truths and regrets. The Wife (Carla Gugino) is magic with Stewart. It is a great testament of the choices we make and how it will eventually change your whole outlook.

Mo'nique Singing Jesus Loves Me

Blackbird-(USA)-Patrik-Ian Polk's Latest with another Oscar-worthy performance from Mo'nique as a Mother who is obsessed with finding her lost daughter, while Her Son (Julian Walker) is struggling between God and his feelings for 2 men. An original coming OUT story (with song) set in the Deep south. A Triumph!

Gerontophilla (Canada) - A Gay Harold and Maude! A confused (and Cute) young man leaves girlfriend behind by getting a job as a care giver and begins a sexual relationship with a 81 yr old Black Man.

Eat w/ Me (USA)-A Bored Housewife, finds LIFE after she leaves her Boring Husband and moves in with her Gay Son. The Son is having lots of sex and about ready to lose his restaurant. The Mom finds Fun with her son's fag hag, neighbor. The son meets the ONE in the form of a Gorgeous Brit Musician. The Mom finally accepts her gay son after a chance meeting with George Takei (Yes, Really)!

Rosie (Switzerland)-a Lonley Rosie, drinks and smokes and gets a stroke, her successful Gay Writer son, is called upon to assist in her care. While there he meets a family friend and Fan, and things get physical. His much younger lover wants to move to Berlin to be with him, but he is expected to stay and take care of Rosie. Someone needs to get a life and the only person standing in the way is Rosie. It is very hard to have a social life, when your aging parent is interfering with your life. Someone has to Go!

Tiger Orange (USA)-a Story of 2 Gay Brothers from a small Northern California town. One is a OUT and Open and the other is Semi-closeted and Traditional.

The Way He Looks (Brazil) -A Blind Teenager develops feelings for the new student, who he thinks likes girls, finally, the feelings are exchanged as the 2 boys walk hand in hand into the sunset. End of Story.

DOC:
Club King (USA) -Seattle Bred, Club Promoter, Mario Diaz is the subject that delves into the Party Scenes of New York and LA. Diaz is also a working actor and was part of Jackie Beat's group. Here, we see Diaz in action as well as interviews with Beat and more. Now I know what are the fuss is about!

Baby Daddy (USA) -I first met Alec Mapa at BC Pride in 2006, and since 2010, he has devoted his attention to being a husband and father to a adoptive son. Sounds Like great material and it is. What is intriguing is Mapa and Family at Home and on stage.
