(OUTscene NW) COVERAGE: Portland's 4th HRC Dinner was Magic!

Up until a few years ago, Portland never hosted an Annual HRC Gala. This evening was always celebrated at the Pacific NW Dinner in Seattle, and Portland members came to that one. Now Portland has one and hosted its 4th Annual Gala this past Saturday in the Gardens of Lewis and Clark College. With over 600 attendees, the gala was the place to be on  a Hot summer night. The atmosphere felt like a wedding as attendees wore summer business casual compare to the regular Black tie style.


As usual, I went to see the stars under stars and spotted Comedian, Dana Goldberg, who hosted the evening, as well as HRC pioneer, Terry Bean who along with former Oregon Governor Barbara Roberts, recognized all the political allies in attendance,  like Ted Wheeler, Former Mayor, Sam Adams, Current Mayor Charlie Hales, and brought up Sen. Jeff Merkley who gave a great speech.

Later, I got to meet Film Director, Gus Van Sant, who introduced, Oscar winning screenwriter of' Milk', Dustin Lance Black, who spoke of growing up Mormon, and coming out to his mother and learning his older brother was Gay, and how he died of cancer before he could enjoy full Marriage Equality. This brought tears to everyone's eyes, and as I snapped a photo of Black, I could see him in a white glow as an angel.

Thousands of Dollars were raised from the silent and Live Auctions with the funds allocated to the fight in 2014 to strike the state DOMA law.

The excitement will tie us over until September 7th, when Seattle hosts the official 14th Annual NW Dinner.
