(MK SCOTT) MK's EXCLUSIVE 'Joint' INTER-view with DTLA Stars, Danny Roberts and Julie Goldman!

by MK Scott

The new series DTLA premieres on Logo on Oct. 24 and 2 of the cast members are OUTscene Pals, Julie Goldman (Big Gay Sketch Show) and Danny Roberts (Real World). So I was able to get them Both for an JOINT interview (Done separate but combined for this Post) and it turned out while doing the series they never met or crossed paths.

Danny Roberts was a member of the cast of The Real World: New Orleans back in 2000. His participation was especially memorable because Danny was dating a US Army Captain named Paul Dill whose face had to be blurred out on screen because the military’s anti-gay Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy was still in place. Roberts Lives in Seattle.

Julie Goldman was a cast member of Logo's Big Gay Sketch Show and is a frequent guest on Jonny McGovern's weekly podcast Gay Pimpin' with Jonny McGovern.

Additionally, Goldman currently write (under the direction of OUTscene Fave, Tony Tripoli) for Joan Rivers on Fashion Police on E!. I last interviewed Goldman in 2010.

MK: How did you get involved in DTLA?

DANNY: The producer found me through his own research back in 2010. I was very skeptical of the whole thing but kept in touch with him over the following year. We met in person a few times here in Seattle and that put me at ease and I learned to trust in his ideas and vision. I really put a lot of trust into what he was doing!

MK: Describe your character?

JULIE: My character is a bouncer at a gay bar. She's tough and inappropriate and sarcastic and has seen it all. twice.

DANNY: My character is a bit mysterious, maybe inspired a little by Jordan Catalano from back in the day. He’s an earthy guy with secrets and is misread from the beginning.

MK: You have a HOT shower scene with Daryl Stephens what was that like to 'Shoot'?

DANNY: That was fun. I’ve never shot anything like that before but it helped put me at ease to film it with him since wee actually have really good chemistry together. It came rather naturally for the most part.

MK: Any difference going from the Real World of Reality to Acting with a scripted show?

DANNY: It’s very different for obvious reasons. I much more enjoy the creativity of a scripted show. There’s no worrying about how you will be portrayed or how viewers will perceive you. It’s art and a much higher form of on-screen work. I don’t think I could ever do reality television again (except for the Amazing Race).

MK: Have seen you on the New Normal and now DTLA, are you enjoying the experience?

JULIE: I am enjoying the experience, it feels like small steps to hopefully a series regular very soon.

MK: How are you enjoying being back on Logo since the Big Gay Sketch show?

JULIE: back on LOGO. feelin fine!

MK: Do you have any scenes TOGETHER?

JULIE:  We don't have any scenes..Who is he?....OHHH SHIT.

DANNY: Not yet…I don’t think our characters will ever actually cross paths.

MK: Would you like the show to have a 2nd Season?

DANNY: It’s expected! Or at least, greatly hoped!

JULIE: I would LOVE a second season and a larger part in the series. wink wink nudge nudge!
MK: Do you have any message for your Fans?
Danny was there when we interviewed SAGAT (2011)

DANNY: I just want to thank them all for the kind messages over the years that have inspired me to continue working to be the best person I can be. It’s insanely flattering to hear that you helped someone through an intense period in life when you’re figuring your sexuality out.

JULIE:  Keep being awesome. I love you!

Besides DTLA, be sure to check out Julie's Indie Flick, 'Love or Whatever" playing at a Film Fest near you!
