RuPaul’s Drag Race (Season 4) ended with the ‘reunion’ episode. This episode was like none other you’ve ever seen before. It was recorded in an L.A. theater with a live audience. The opening number was a dance routine performed by all of the contestants. And may I add, there were two queens that caught my eye the most - Ms. Jiggly Caliente & Latrice Royale. I don’t know who did their styling, but they look like they paid some money for their looks. The whole event was definitely a grand spectacle to behold. However, I like the old format better. It was more intimate and heart felt. Nevertheless, it was a good show.
So, how did it all go down? As you know, the top three were Chad Michaels, Sharon Needles, and PhiPhi O’Hara. But before Ru named the winner, she announced who was voted Miss Congeniality, which was Latrice Royale. She also announced that Latrice will be joining the faculty of Drag U. I’m happy for Latrice. She finally gets to have a steady paycheck, which can be hard to come by considering her ex-felon status. All I can say is ‘don’t fuck it up girl.’
After Ru named Latrice ‘Miss Congeniality’, she brought out Willam. Everyone was waiting for this. Everyone wanted to know ‘what did Willam do?’ First, let me just state for the record, I hated what Willam wore for the reunion episode, which was a nude colored pleather mini-sheaf dress with a couple of black stars on it. It was definitely the cheapest looking dress out of all the girls, but hey, maybe she meant to do that. Who knows? Willam is definitely a complicated and controversial queen. Well, what did she do wrong? It turns out that she really didn’t do anything wrong. It was her unnamed boyfriend. He ended up following Willam to the competition, and shacking up with her on a regular basis in her hotel room. Willam was never caught in the act. Nevertheless, she felt compelled to tell the truth. Willam will never cease to amaze me. Who would have thought that the bitch had morals.
Now, who is the winner? Like I stated in my previous review, I thought it was going to be Chad Michaels. Instead, Sharon Needles was named the winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race (Season 4). Sharon has always been my favorite to win, but she just didn’t have a strong finish in the last episode. I really don’t think the best queen won. It should have been Chad Michaels. The only explanation I have is it must have been ‘drag queen politics’. And I’m not mad at Ru. She did what was best for the show. And by naming Sharon Needles the winner, she brought a whole new sub-group of drag queens into the mix. Instead of just pageantry girls, we now have horror show girls too. I think her decision keeps the drag industry interesting and forever evolving, and I can’t wait to see what RuPaul has in store for us in Season 5.

I told you it would be Sharon! And as a horror queen when I do Mona Khrome I have to say it was reassuring. In Seattle we used to have a thriving subculture of queens that weren't in the court and weren't pageant queens. After Foxxxes closed we saw that sub culture get strangled down. In the last few years with the rise of Cherry Sur Bette, Ursula Major, and Honey Bouquet we have seen that subculture return. We still don't have that many like Colony, who hearken back to Isabella Packaweenie but it's good to see that the place for the Jackie Hell's and Ursula Android's of the world has been brought into the fold. Also it was nice to see a queen that won't be remolded into Ru's image.
