If King's Speech co-producer Simon Egan ever wins another Oscar, he probably won't be letting any babies near it. Egan's 15-month-old daughter dropped and broke the movie's Best Picture award at a celebration the morning after the ceremony. She lost her grip after being given the statuette to hold for a photo. No one yelled at little Lara after the accident, but the party crowd did go deathly quiet, said Egan. The statuette, which suffered a bashed head, a damaged shoulder, and a dislodged chest plate, was rushed to the Academy for treatment.
"They gave us a brand spanking new Oscar within minutes after a lady wearing gloves took our damaged one away," Egan tells the Telegraph. (Lara is now "scared" to go near it, he added.) "In a funny way I was surprised not to see other sheepish people in there with their damaged Oscars sitting there nursing tears. I was stunned by the speed at which the Academy responded. I had no idea that they had an 'Oscar Hospital' on standby."
