Barack Obama signed the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell Repeal Act of 2010 into law today in a packed ceremony at the Department of the Interior. “This is a good day!” Obama declared to a standing ovation when he entered the room, according to NPR. “The law I’m about to sign will strengthen our national security.” Obama did warn that the legislation would not take effect until he gets the all-clear from the military. “But we’re not going to be dragging our feet.”
“We are not a nation that says ‘don’t ask, don’t tell,’” Obama concluded. “We are a nation that says, ‘out of many, we are one.’” With that he sat down and signed the law.
So Happy to see OUTview Contributor, Eric Alva, standing behind Obama during this Historical moment!
