Finally, scientists have answered the question that is surely foremost on your mind: What makes a person a good dancer? A new study to be published in a UK journal finds that women like men who know how to move their "core body region," a lead psychologist says. "The torso, the neck, the head. It was not just the speed of the movements, it was also the variability of the movement. So someone who is twisting, bending, moving, nodding."
A bad dancer, on the other hand, "is someone who engages in very rigid, stereotypical movements. A head banger, for example, is a bad dancer," he says. "There's not much going on there in terms of variability." Note: "Dad dancing" falls in this category, too. Women may be more attracted to good dancers because—much like courtship rituals in the wild—their movements show that the potential mates are "young and fit and healthy," the psychologist says.
