It didn't take long for Paris Hilton to learn that a drug conviction can get in the way of a jet-setting lifestyle. The socialite—who pleaded guilty this week to a misdemeanor charge of drug possession—flew to Japan the next day and was refused entry, the AP reports. She was questioned for hours and then allowed to spend the night in an airport hotel before returning for more questioning today. After that round, officials stuck by their earlier decision.
Hilton's spokesman said the Tokyo trip to promote Hilton's fashion and fragrance line was planned long before her legal troubles. "I'm going back home, and I look forward to coming back to Japan in the future," Hilton told reporters at Narita Airport, although her return trip may not happen for a while. Japan tends to take a hard line on foreigners convicted of drug offenses and it took many years of trying before the Rolling Stones were granted visas.
