‘Dancing with the Stars’: The hero has left the ballroom.

Astronaut Buzz Aldrin was eliminated from ‘Dancing with the Stars‘ Tuesday night.
Yes, America, that means Kate Gosselin was saved once more. The reality TV mom has been taking a beating from the judges, her critics at large and now even her ex-husband.

Gosselin, whose Paso Doble was “hard to watch” according to Carrie Ann Inaba, landed at the bottom of the leaderboard once again. Kate herself was stunned when she was declared safe, and even feigned a faint.

Another stunner: ‘Bachelor‘ Jake Pavelka and Chelsie Hightower were the other couple in the Bottom Two.

But no one was ready to see the ever-charming American icon Buzz Aldrin go home, even though the moonwalker had the lowest scores each week. We were hoping he’d be back to boogie at least one more week, but we were wrong, as he and partner Ashly Costa were the second couple voted off the show.

“I never thought I’d walk on the moon, but I certainly never thought I’d dance on TV,” Aldrin said to host Tom Bergeron as he made his graceful exit.

“I did this show for the fighter pilots out there, the military people and the elder geezers like me who would just like to see an elder come back week after week,” the 80-year-old astronaut added.

With a tear in his eye, he added, “It’s been a wonderful experience for me.”
After the show, Aldrin told us he had hoped to stick around, “We were certainly planning on it, at least another couple of weeks.”

Costa is amazed by her partner and thinks the judges were unfair to the couple throughout their time on the show. “I think it was unbelievable what Buzz did. It really is. And I was a little bit disappointed that the judges really didn’t see the effort [he put in to improve] and who he is and what he’s accomplished,” Costa told reporters backstage.

The ‘DWTS’ results show also featured an array of fun performances. This week’s encore honor went to Olympian Evan Lysacek and Anna Trebunskaya, who had the highest score Monday night [a 26], because they “wowed” the judges with their Quick Step.

“Erin, Evan, Nicole [are] my favorites right now,” said Reba McEntire, who performed her song “I Want a Cowboy” with Val Chmerkovskiy, Maks Chmerkovskiy, Snejana Petrova, and Edyta Sliwinska dancing along, and “Consider Me Gone” with Lacey Schwimmer and Dmitry Chaplin strutting their stuff.

Another nice musical moment came when recently booted dance pro Mark Ballas played acoustic guitar as fellow band mate Derek Hough danced a dramatic Paso Doble with Chelsie Hightower. (But, OMG, the way-too-serious look on Hough’s face made us LOL.) Hough even strummed a few chords on the guitar before hitting the dance floor for the standing-ovation performance.
A new twist is in store for next week’s show as each routine will get two scores: one for performance and one for technique. The judges will also give the celebs specific dance moves to perform. It’ll be the “most demanding test,” said Len Goodman. “Season 10 is turning into season-ten-sion!” Oh, Len!
