(OUTscene AMERICA): INTER-view: What a Sissy....A Revealing Moment with 'Man at Bath's' Francois Sagat, Finally on DVD!

From Porn to Film Star?
by Adrian Ryan

So I says to Francois Sagat, I says, “Francois! I understand that this is probably the most obvious question in the universe and that you’ve been asked it over and over and over again, but! Do you plan to embrace your porn career as you move forward into mainstream films, or play it down?”

And Francois Sagat says? “I don’t want to do mainstream films. I like porn.”

Well. Okeedokee then. (And with his deep French accent and his pouty French lips, the word "porn" sound like “prawn”. Adorable.)

(SIFF 2014) 2014 Golden Space Needle and Competition Awards!

Boyhood was a Big winner and  this took 10 years to make!
SEATTLE -- June 8, 2014 -- The 40th Seattle International Film Festival, the largest and most highly attended film festival in the United States, today announced the winners of the SIFF 2014 Golden Space Needle and Competition Awards. The awards were presented at a ceremony and brunch held at the Space Needle. The 25-day festival, which began May 15, featured 452 films representing 83 countries, including 44 World Premieres (20 features, 24 shorts), 30 North American Premieres (22 features, 8 shorts), 14 US Premieres (8 features, 6 shorts), and over 770 Festival screenings and events. Additionally, SIFF brought in more than 350 filmmakers, actors, and industry professionals, setting a new guest record.

Carl Spence, SIFF's Artistic Director, says, "This has been an extraordinary 40th anniversary Festival. From welcoming back Richard Linklater to Seattle with his groundbreaking epic Boyhood, to honoring Laura Dern, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Quincy Jones for their masterful work, to welcoming Caroll Spinney, the puppeteer who has brought Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch to life for years, to the hundreds of first-time directors making their debut, it's been another year of indelible cinematic experiences. Every year, it's so thrilling to see our legendary Seattle audiences discover our lineup of films and wholly immerse themselves in the Festival experience. Congratulations to every single film and filmmaker that we had the opportunity to present!"

Adds Mary Bacarella, SIFF's Managing Director, "Beginning with our big Opening Night announcement about the purchase of the SIFF Cinema Uptown and lease on the historic Egyptian Theatre, this Festival has blown away all of my expectations. Each day (and there's 25 of them!) seemed to bring even more exciting events and can't-miss moments. I'm thrilled to be leading SIFF in this time of growth, and can't wait to get to work on bringing incredible films to two neighborhood cinemas."

(ED...4 LGBT Films were nominated and 2 wins with Best Short-Documentary with Maikaru and a Special Mention for Live Action Short, Aban + Khorshid.)

(SHOWcase) Ruthie Doyle's La Vernia!

In LaVernia, queer Brooklynite EstherAnn Graber gets a call that her grandmother has passed away, and she returns to the rural Texas town of LaVernia for the funeral. Esther's travels not only bring her complex relationship to her family into focus, but also highlight the many roles Esther plays.

Ruthie Doyle (writer/director/EstherAnne Graber) is a filmmaker based in Los Angeles via Brooklyn. Often lyrical and impressionistic, her work makes a non-literal exploration of issues surrounding family, memory, identity, gender and sexuality. (OUTscene AMERICA) Hunky Rib Hillis wants your help in getting his film “Birthday Cake” served up in RedBox and Netflix!

Last fall, I had the pleasure of attending Birthday cake at SLGFF and was by far the Best.

It is a sequel to a short film called Groom Cake that I saw at the Palm Springs gay & lesbian fest which told the story of the three days leading up to two guys getting married – they are played by writer-director Chad Darnell and Rib Hillis who is the naked guy in the photo that got our attention!
The feature film covers the three days leading up to the first birthday party for the baby they have adopted and adds to the cast such well-known names as Helen Shaver, Lee Meriwether, and Helen Shaver. Peter Paige appears in both films.

Like all indie films, the key is distribution. In May, Birthday Cake will be distributed through Ariztical Entertainment and available on mulitple platforms of Video On Demand, Video Download and DVD.

But the filmmakers we want to get the movie into Red Box.

Red Box traditionally does not stock LGBT genre films but did stock the documentary Bridegroom which did well.

Redbox is currently reviewing the movie for consideration and Netflix is next and filmmakers want to create more buzz and social media presence for the movie. Click HERE to find out how you can help.
