(OUTview NW) RE-view: SWC's Season Begins in the Hallows with Spirits Rising!

The Iconic Coleman in the Historic St. Marks   (Tapado)
by MK Scott

I must confess that this was my first Seattle Women's Chorus Concert in its 13 years of existence, so I went this time, only to pay my respects to my mentor, Dennis Coleman, who is scheduled to put away the baton for good for SWC and most importantly the Men's Chorus after 35 years in June 2016.

Another reason for attending SWC's current show, Spirits Rising is because it is their annual Hallows in the Cathedral  show at Seattle's St. Marks Cathedral. The acoustics sound SO GOOD, and it reminded me when my High School Choir would travel to places like Grace Cathedral in San Francisco just experience the sound.

Rebekah Del Rio     (Tapado)
I attended the opening night show with Guest Artist, Rebekah Del Rio (Mulholland Drive) who sang One song per Act. First was her signature song, Betty Blue and then in the next Act was Liorando (A Spanish version of Roy Orbinson) who said the KD Lang version inspired her to translate the song in Spanish.

In Act One, the Women's Chorus were all sparkly in their black evening gowns as they sang songs like Roueche's Lux Aeterna to Sondheim's No one is alone to Rossini's Duetto Buffo di Due Gatti and ended with Webber's Memory.

Hocky Horror in 5 min. (Tapado)
Act Two brought the ladies out in Halloween Costumes and the highlight was the 5 min retelling of Rocky Horror. SMC's did just selections back in 1999 with costumes, but this time you got the full story in 5 min.

The Shia Labeouf Live piece was head scratcher, but it was saved with such Disney Classics as 'Beauty and the Beast" and Pharrell's "Happy".

The Finale was the FAB, Rondes and the proved how wonderful the Hallows in the Cathedral series is a total Trick AND Treat.

Seattle Women's Chorus' Hallows in the Cathedral series: Spirits Rising continues through Halloween Night at St Mark's Cathedral. Click HERE for TIX.
