(Best of 2013) OUTview's Person of the Year is...............

Jinkx with Jaymes and James
by MK Scott

2013 was a great year, but there was only one person that we followed from Seattle to LA to San Francisco to New York to back to Seattle and that person is... Jinkx Monsoon!

Jinkx (and the Man, Jerick Hoffer) started the year as Hedwig in Seattle's Hedwig and the Angry Inch with Mixed reviews, but no one could argue the talent of Hoffer. When Season 5 of Rupaul's drag race premiered, Jinkx showed that she was there to learn and not engage and participate in Queen Cat fights, but it was what she was doing Behind the Scenes it was simply part of her charm. Jinkx continued to be the victor of each task and the audience fell in love.

I was lucky enough to be there for the May taping of the Finale in North Hollywood, Jinkx looked and felt like the winner, unlike from previous seasons, and when Jinkx was crowned the winner the audience Bursted with applause and excitement. Jinkx grabbed Rupaul by the hand and walked down the runway as an equal team.

Just a week later, I was in San Francisco to cover the Red Carpet of the GLAAD Media awards and chatted with Jinkx and so glad to come with her on the this Journey. Later during the awards Jinkx overwhelmed the crowd (Including Adam Lambert sitting in the front row) with a rendition of 'The Queens who Lunch'. It turned out that Jinkx was only on the midway mark and created even more of an impact in the months to come.

In June, Jinkx/Jerick, stole the 5th Ave Theater/SMC's Hairspray 10th Anniversary Concert, as the queen of Mean, Velma. Jinkx stole every scene she was in and her was voice was powerful.

In July, Jerick graced the cover of City Arts Magazine.

In October, Jinkx teamed up with Peaches Christ for a parody sequel to 'Grey Gardens' to perform in both San Francisco and to a sold out crowd in Seattle.

In November, She brought her show, The vaudevillians, to critically acclaim in New York. Even past and Present Hedwig's came and cheered her on.

And finally came back to Seattle in December to the Best Reviews ever for a encore of 'Hedwig'. Jinkx was lost, and a New Hedwig emerged and to top it off presented $10,000 of her RDR winnings, to the Fred Hutcherson CRC's HIV Vaccine unit.

That is why OUTview presents Jinkx Monsoon with its first person of the year award!

May your star to continue to shine in 2014!

Honorable Mention: Jaymes Vaughn and James Davis (Chippendales/Amazing Race)

Dustin Lance Black (Author of MILK, J. Edgar and his commitment to Marriage Equality up and down the West Coast)

Ed Murray (Seattle's Newly Gay Mayor)
