(LIST) 12 Actors Who Have Belittled Their Own Movies!

Cloud Atlas certainly has inspired its stars to diss their past projects. On Chelsea Lately Tuesday, Halle Berry reminisced about how she met her fiance Olivier Martinez "on a s**t movie, Us reports. She was referring to Dark Tide, which came out earlier this year and did not perform well. And her costar Hugo Weaving also criticized a past flick of his while promoting Cloud Atlas.

“I didn’t care about it, I didn’t think about it,” he said of his role as the voice of Megatron in Transformers. “It was meaningless to me.” Director Michael Bay—who has also had Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox complain about the movies—suggested “all those whiners” give the money they made off the films to charity. When, wonders Aisha Harris on Slate, is it OK for actors to belittle their own movies and when is it not cool? A guide:

  • Tom Hanks: OK. Hanks, who recently poked fun at past films Turner and Hooch and Angels and Demonsalso while promoting Cloud Atlas!—has two Oscars and is pretty much universally beloved.
  • George Clooney: OK. Clooney called Batman and Robin “a waste of money.” But since everyone agrees the movie is awful, no one seemed to care.
  • Jamie Lee Curtis: OK. She called Virus “so bad that it’s shocking,” “dreadful,” and “the all-time piece of s**t.” But there was no backlash … because everyone has forgotten about the movie.
  • Halle Berry, again: OK. When accepting the Razzie for Catwoman, she thanked director Pitof for “putting me in a piece of s**t, godawful movie.” But that’s fine, because no one has any idea who Pitof is.
  • Shia LaBeouf: Not cool. In addition to his aforementioned beef with Bay, LaBeouf also criticized his role in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Problem is, Steven Spielberg directed that, and he’s ... Steven Spielberg. LaBeouf was lambasted by pretty much everyone, including Harrison Ford.
Click for the complete list, including an actor who described his role as “like flogging a dead horse” … and another who had the audacity to diss Star Wars.
