Score another one for Jose Canseco's relentless quest to make the entire planet mad at him: This time it's Celebrity Boxing, which discovered on Saturday that the Canseco it paid $10,000 to show up at a match was really Jose's twin brother, Ozzie. The boxing group made the discovery “when he took off his shirt and didn’t have Jose’s tattoos on the biceps that appear in our advertising,” a rep tells El Nuevo Herald.
Celebrity Boxing says it had wired Canseco $5,000 at the time the agreement was struck, then wrote another check just before the match—which Ozzie Canseco refused to return when the dupe was discovered. Celebrity Boxing canceled the match, and Ozzie Canseco was escorted from the premises with the assistance of police. Jose Canseco isn't responding, other than a tweet about how the promoter "did not comply with his part of the agreement.”
