One of the great things about the repeal of DADT, we can go back to 20 months ago, just when OUTview had just started, to an interview I had with Nathaniel Frank (author of the Best Seller, Unfriendly Fire) and the question was will DADT be repealed under Obama? Yes, but when? One thing to note was Frank appeared on my podcast BEFORE he was on The Daily Show, a week later.
Yesterday, I contacted Nathaniel for a statement and this was his response: "The end of DADT is a historic victory not just for LGBT people but for America. Since its founding, this country has said with its military ban that same-sex love is somehow a threat to our nation. It wasn’t true then; it’s not true now. Ending DADT is about America putting that myth to rest. This is a victory made possible by the extraordinary efforts of movement groups and individuals, courageous political leaders, and military members themselves who served valiantly and fought daily for justice. With the end of this ban, their burden is lessened though never light. And our nation, which will now live with a greater measure of truth, is stronger."
