ISSUES: Montana GOP Platform: It's Illegal to Be Gay!

Homosexuals may be gaining more rights across the nation, but they can steer clear of Montana Republicans, thank you very much. The AP notes that the state party has adopted a platform that reiterates this statement of principle under the "crime" section: "We support the clear will of the people of Montana expressed by legislation to keep homosexual acts illegal."

The party put it into place when the state supreme court struck down anti-gay laws in 1997, and even some GOP lawmakers think it's time to ditch it. "I looked at that and said, 'You've got to be kidding me,'" said one state senator. "Should it get taken out? Absolutely. Does anybody think we should be arresting homosexual people? If you take that stand, you really probably shouldn't be in the Republican Party."
