Theissen, Cook and Norby All Return! |
As soon as I heard Greg Tamblyn/Pixiedust productions' La Cage Aux Folles, was returning to the Portland Theater Scene for limited run, I jump at the chance to head south to see this production that is making its third run (Most recently at Lakewood Theater in May 2013)
I should also mention that Tamblyn is known as one of top Directors in the Portland Musical Theater scene and is a fellow Beaverton High Alum that also credits James Erickson as a mentor. I followed Tamblyn's Career since the 80's. Another honorable mention was the use of Cherie Price's original 2001 Choreography, who I have also followed for decades.
Great see other familiar greats as Leif Norby (George), Pam Mahon (Mrs. Dindon) and of course the always Sassy Kevin Cook/Poison Waters (Jacob/Claudia)!
The critically acclaimed La Cage Aux Folles by (Outview Pal) Harvey Fierstein and Jerry Herman opened at the Newmark Theatre on this past weekend.
A gay nightclub owner (Norby) and his temperamental partner (Joe Theissen) and performing star welcome home the owner's son (The cute, Jack Levis), who wants his family to meet his fiancĂ©e’s parents (Mahon and ). The catch: Her father (Stacey Murdock) is head of an anti-gay political party. A story of respect and understanding, parents and children, love and marriage. The Jerry Herman music features "The Best of Times and "I Am What I Am." The original 1983 Broadway production won six Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book.
La Cage Aux Folles is a timeless and deliciously funny tale of family values, unconditional love and, above all, the need to be proud of who we are. Critics call it an indisputable musical comedy classic.
La Cage Aux Folles features music and lyrics by Jerry Herman (Hello Dolly!, Mame, Mack & Mabel) and book by Harvey Fierstein (Torch Song Trilogy, Newsies, Kinky Boots). The musical is based on the farce by Jean Poiret (which also inspired the Robin Williams / Nathan Lane movie The Birdcage).
Tamblyn's show is the whole package with Cast (Both from the Theater and Drag scene), Music, (led by the one and only Alan Lytle) Sets and Costumes, Choreography and direction, all as a lasting legacy of Portland Legend, James Erickson!
If you loved The Birdcage, you will sing for joy when you see the musical La Cage Aux Folles, continuing through October 5th! Click here for Tickets!
