A man who says he is the son of a prominent Catholic priest is suing the organization the late cleric founded, alleging the late Rev. Marcial Maciel Degollado molested him. The Vatican fielded many reports of sexual abuse by Maciel from the 1950s through 2002, the lawsuit says. "Pope Benedict in 2006 moved my father, my daddy, or Marcial Maciel to rest. To pray," Raul Gonzalez tells ABC News. "Why didn't he bring him to jail?"
Gonzalez, who was raised in Mexico, says he was conceived when Maciel was 60 and his mother was 20. He says Maciel had a daughter with a Spanish women, and news reports say there was a third family, in Switzerland. Gonzalez has negotiated fruitlessly with the conservative Legion of Christ, the order Maciel founded. Says Gonzalez's lawyer: "How could Vatican officials allow such a dangerous predator to roam the landscape and the globe with the power given to him as the founder of the Legion of Christ?"
