OUTscene: The Seattle Lesbian's Exclusive Interview: Desperate Housewives and Grassroots Star Emily Bergl!

You might recognize this profiled actress from her roles on the adorable coming-of-age hit series Gilmore Girls, Anne Heche's Men in Trees and Shonda Rhimes' uber-popular Seattle-set Grey's Anatomy. Recently, she began work on Desperate Housewives alongside Eva Longoria, Marcia Cross, Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, James Denton, and other top-name Hollywood stars. Her name is Emily Bergl and she is a force to be reckoned with in a tiny body and a huge heart.

I spoke with Bergl in an on-set interview before her role on Desperate Housewives was confirmed. She was working on the Seattle-based feature film, Grassroots, downtown near REI. Joining her was American Pie alum Jason Biggs and Jake and Maggie's father, Stephen Gyllenhaal, was serving as director. Also on the set that day - Joel David Moore and Tom Arnold.

ISSUES: Lesbian Couple Threatened to Stay Away from the Royal Court!

Champlin Park High School (CPHS) and the Anoka-Hennepin School District in Minnesota are being sued by the Southern Poverty Law Center, the National Center for Lesbian Rights and Faegre & Benson law firm because of their refusal to allow a lesbian couple - Desiree (Daz) Shelton and Sarah Lindstrom - to be on the "royal court" at the school's Snow Days dance.

“We are disappointed that the school and school district will not simply grant these two students the same rights as every other student, as they are due under both state and federal law,” said Sam Wolfe, lead attorney for the Southern Poverty Law Center. “It is an absolute shame that the school and school district have tarnished what should be a joyous celebration through these discriminatory actions.”

ISSUES: Seattle Murder-Rape Suspect of Lesbian Lashes Out in Court!

Isaiah Kalebu (23), the suspect accused of brutally raping and killing Teresa Butz (39) and raping and slashing her 37-year-old partner in July 2009, lashed out in a Seattle courtroom today. Kalebu knocked over a chair and demanded to be released from jail immediately. He was removed from court by three King County Jail officers while he cursed and yelled.

Earlier in the week, Superior Court Judge Michael Hayden ruled that Kalebu is competent to stand trial so today's court hearing was to schedule a trial. He has a long history of mental illness and has been evaluated four times since 2008 at Western State Hospital. Due to this mental history, King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg is not seeking the death penalty but will instead seek aggravated first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree rape and first-degree burglary. If Kalebu is convicted on the aggravated first-degree murder charge, he will get an automatic sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole or early release.

Laurel Holloman is at once a beautiful actress, exquisite painter and devoted mother. This winter, The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love star will be visiting The Dinah in Palm Springs. OUTscene: The Seattle Lesbian's Exclusive Interview With The Dinah Pioneer Mariah Hanson

By Sarah Toce
Editor-in-Chief, The Seatttle Lesbian:

The mastermind behind The Dinah, Mariah Hanson, puts a human race to a civil rights movement that is oftentimes masked by anti-gay rhetoric and cultural wars in our nation. She has been referenced alongside the likes of lesbian-recognized personalities Ellen DeGeneres, Suze Orman, Chely Wright, Jane Lynch, and other entertainment industry pioneers. This year marks the 21st celebration that can only be called – The Dinah.

Hanson took some time out of her extremely hectic and never boring schedule to chat with me, one of her personal fans and friends, about life, The Dinah, Laurel Holloman, and the controversial Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and Ke$ha (among other spicy story recounts).

OUTscene: The Seattle Lesbian's Exclusive Interview with Lilith Fair Artist and Beloved Tough-As-Nails Actress Jill Hennessy

She is the talented mother we all hear about who bakes macaroni and cheese for her child with one hand while strumming guitar chords in rotation with the other - always in search of the perfect melody to eventually share with the ears that make up the modern world.

Following her heart and her sense of timely direction, Jill Hennessy has taken the television and music worlds by storm. The former Crossing Jordan star is back on the small screen in the upcoming HBO series Luck, has a very personal album out called "Ghost in my Head." Accompany all of that with some pretty wild stories of her Lilith Fair tour this past summer and you've got yourself one heck of an interview.
