District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis has all but declared her candidacy for mayor of San Diego, SD Gay News Reports.
Dumanis has created a campaign website called Bonnie Dumanis For Mayor Of San Diego and is soliciting support.
The openly gay Republican is likely to face a slew of candidates to replace the popular Mayor Jerry Sanders, who is termed out.
Fellow Republican Carl DeMaio, who is one of two openly gay San Diego City Councilmembers, has already filed papers to run for mayor but has not formally declared yet.
California state Sen. Christine Kehoe, an openly gay Democrat who once served on the City Council, is said to be considering a run at the mayor’s office.
Potential candidates include three other Republicans: state Assemblymember Nathan Fletcher; businessman Steve Francis, who has unsuccessfully run for mayor before; and City Councilmember Kevin Faulconer.
Congressman Bob Filner, a popular Democrat from San Diego, is another potential suitor for the job.
