(OUTscene AMERICA) RED CARPET: HRC -LA Gala!

Greg in Hollywood
It must’ve been the Mariah Carey effect.
Saturday night’s arrivals carpet at the Human Rights Campaign Dinner at the JW Marriott at LA Live drew more media than there was space so we were packed like sardines.
I literally had to stand sideways the entire time as I did interviews with honorees Shonda Rhimes and HBO’s Michael Lombardo as well as HRC President Chad Griffin.
Mariah was confirmed just a few days before the event and Griffin told me he immediately began hearing from a lot of people in LA where he lived until starting his East Coast-based job with HRC.
‘Some folks who hadn’t gotten their tickets early enough then suddenly got their tickets,’ he said. ‘We’re all excited to see Mariah no question about it.’
Lombardo told me during our chat that he was ‘incredibly proud’ to be receiving the HRC Visibility Award.
‘I’m a gay American, I’m a father, I’m a husband. HRC has been at the forefront of protecting my rights – the right of my marriage, the rights of my kids. There’s not an organization that I could be more proud to be recognized by.’
I also chatted with George Takei, Betty DeGeneres, Jonathan Del Arco, Lance Bass, Peter Paige and Ryan Carnes.
Matt Bomer posed for photos then blew by the press line but I was able to snap one fuzzy photo. Was chatting with Takei when Cheyenne Jackson and his hubby came by and I also spotted but did not get to chat with Guillermo Diaz, Maria Bello, Lea Thompson, Dan Bucatinsky and Michelle Stafford.
Mariah didn’t do the arrivals carpet, of course, nor did keynote speaker Al Franken, Girls star Lena Dunham, or Empire star Jussie Smollett.

(OUTscene AMERICA) PHOTOS: Elton John’s Oscar party to benefit his AIDS foundation!
Of all the places to be seen on Oscar Sunday, Elton John’s 21st annual Oscar viewing party at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood is always one of the top gatherings.
This year, Elton and husband David Furnish were joined by their adorable son, Zachary Furnish-John.
Among the gays in attendance were Andrew Rannells, Jane Lynch, Chris Colfer (with BFF Ashley Fink), and Lance Bass with boyfriend Michael Turchin.
Everyone who wasn’t at the Oscars seemed to be at this party including Britney Spears, Jim Carrey, Miley Cyrus, those bloody Kardashians and a buncha hunky guys including Matthew Morrison, Colton Haynes, Mehcad Brooks, Ian Somerhalder, Ryan Kwantan, Paul Wesley and many more.

(OUTscene AMERICA) Photos and Impressions from Saturday night’s Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Center Gala!
![]() |
| Cruz and Jean |
I always look forward to the Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Center’s anniversary gala each year.
The Center does so much good work for the LGBT community and provides so many vital services so this is an organization I stand firmly behind.
I’ve attended at least 10 of the galas and I’ve seen CEO Lorri L. Jean give some rousing and inspiring speeches – even in the worse of times for the LGBT equality movement.
So how wonderful it was to see her on Saturday night dancing on the stage with delight because of all the triumphs achieved last Tuesday at the polls.
‘I am one happy lesbian!’ she said before stepping away from the microphone and doing an extended jig across the stage as the crowd roared with delight.

(OUTscene AMERICA) Outfest 2012: Hamlin AND Hiller attend 30th anniversary screening of “Making Love”!
![]() |
| Sandler, Berg, Hamlin and Hiller w/ Duralde (c) (GIH) |
OUTFEST hosted the 30th anniversary screening of Making Love, the 1982 film that was considered so controversial at the time because of its story of a young married doctor (Michael Ontkean) coming to terms with his homosexuality. Kate Jackson played his television executive wife and Harry Hamlin an author with whom he becomes involved.
After the film screened, Hamlin was part of a panel that included director Arthur Hiller and writers A. Scott Berg and Barry Sandler.

(OUTscene America) 30th Anniversary party for Frontiers!
\
by Greg Hernandez
My apologies for the tardiness in getting these photos up from Sunday’s party celebrating the 30th Anniversary of Frontiers magazine. (My red carpet from the GLAAD Media Awards are still to come as well!)
But better late than never!
This was a completely fantastic party at Eleven in West Hollywood and I think everyone who was there had a terrific time.
