This was not the first time meeting Barney Frank, I met him at a Convention in 2004 and I had seen Congressman Mcdermott in passing at charity events. When I both saw them together at a campaign fundraiser in Seattle I sat down with both and we discussed ENDA. However, this was Before Frank had decided to retire from Congress. In addition to discussing his own coming out and why it would be "political suicide" for liberals to abandon President Obama, the outgoing politico offered his thoughts on transgender opposition to a recent Massachusetts law that add gender identity to the state's non-discrimination regulations, yet still allows hotels, restaurants and other public spaces to turn trans people away.

A Game Plan for ENDA!
The Obama administration may well create an executive order requiring federal contractors to guarantee workplace fairness for LGBT employees. But what can we reasonably hope to accomplish in Congress on ENDA in the short run?
Sen. Tom Harkin (D) of Iowa – a longtime progressive leader – currently presides as chairman of the Senate Labor Committee. He can and should organize an ENDA hearing during the upcoming year. Making up for mistakes made in the past, he can and should call one or more transgender Americans to testify at that hearing.

The Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender civil rights organization, hailed today’s bipartisan reintroduction of an inclusive Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), which would create federal protections against workplace discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. The bill is a critical piece of an economic empowerment agenda for the LGBT community, as detailed in a recent memo by HRC: www.hrc.org/documents/EconomicEmpowerment.pdf.

MY VIEW: Speaker Pelosi and ENDA

This is about the Employment Non-Discrimination Act. I’m proud to participate in some small way with the others, because I simply cannot imagine getting harassed in the workplace just because of who I am as a human being. It’s un-American.We’re better than this.Bilerico has the details, but here’s the bottom line:
A clue to the inaction: Speaker Nancy Pelosi publicly told Democrats that she would not move controversial bills. Meanwhile, the House Committee has stated its readiness to move, but is waiting for a signal from Speaker Pelosi.
That signal has not come. Meanwhile, LGBT Americans continue to suffer discrimination and harassment with no recourse.President Obama famously said in a campaign speech that “Power concedes nothing without a fight.”We demand that LGBT people receive the same job rights as other people: to be able to get and keep a job based only on relevant factors, like job performance, and not on irrelevant criteria, like sexual orientation or gender identity.
There is a majority in both Houses of Congress in favor of ENDA. Now is the time to move it.
In 30 states across America, there is no law against firing someone based on his or her sexual orientation, and the same is true in 38 states for gender identity.Will you join with us in asking that gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people be protected from job discrimination?
